Look close. There are actually 2 mountain bikers in the middle of this photo. I was hiking on the other side of the river when I shot this. I decided to travel light that day and left my long zoom lens behind. Unfortunately!

The Culvert Trail is trail #4 of the 5 trails that make up the Clementine Loop Trail. It runs from Lake Clementine Road to the Auburn-Foresthill Road and drops down into Mammoth Bar. At this point it hooks up with trail #5, the Confluence Trail, which parallels the Middle Fork of the American River.

The Confluence Trail is #5 of the five trails that make up the Clementine Loop Trail. It begins off Old Foresthill Road out of the Mammoth Bar OHV area in Placer County, runs along the Middle Fork of the American River and ends up at the Foresthill Bridge.

The Quarry Trail (see the trail in the background of this photo) that I wrote about in previous posts, is on the other side of the river, in El Dorado County.

Note: This trail is recommended for advanced riders only.

A few years ago, I taught an Adult Education class “How to Capture Great Travel and Adventure Photos - Right in Your Own Backyard,” at Placer High School in Auburn.

I took this photo of one of my students, Melanie Anderson, viewing the Foresthill Bridge, during the photo workshop portion of our class. We spent 3 hours photographing at the Confluence of the North and Middle Forks of the American River.

Visit our Auburn Stock Photo Gallery to see more photos of the area. You can also see more Auburn photos by clicking on the Auburn category on this blog.

Pond and Reflections

Pond and reflections, rural Auburn, California

There are a lot of ponds in the Auburn area, but this is one of my favorites.

Many common species of birds seem to claim it as one of their favorites as well. But, every year in the spring, the pond also gets visited by a not so common bird, the Green Heron. It is a beauty of a bird that lives in this pond for weeks at a time, before moving on.

Digital Art of American River Rocks, ASRA, Auburn, California

Here is another version of the river rocks photo in my last post. It’s been awhile since I experimented with the artistic filters in PhotoShop. I thought this rock shot would be a good one to play around with.

Which one do you like best? I’d love to hear your comments, positive and negative.

If you are looking for a trail in the Auburn area suitable for baby strollers, the Quarry Road Trail can’t be beat! It parallels the Middle Fork of the American River, it’s easy and it’s wide.

My Backyard!

The American River is not literally my backyard, but it’s only minutes away. Within 15-20 minutes, I can be in a number of photographic hot spots this good, or better!

This shot was taken during our hike on the Quarry Road Trail.
