Movie set for Michael Landon Jr.'s film "Love Comes Softly," Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park, Pilot Hill, California.

We returned to the Cronan Ranch for another photo shoot and hike a few days ago. This time around, the grass was green and it was even more beautiful than it was during our first visit to the park on New Year’s Day.

We plan to return again soon to capture more rafting, kayaking and canoeing photos, as well as wildflowers. We hear the wildflowers put on a pretty good show there. It should get good in another couple of weeks or so.

rafting
Early season rafters, paddling a smooth section of the South Fork of the American River, near Coloma, California.

This photo was taken during my photo shoot this past Sunday, at the Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park.

One of the great things about living in Auburn is it’s location. We are located in the heart of the California Gold Country and in the midst of one of the best recreational playgrounds in the country. Within minutes, we can be hiking, skiing, mountain biking, whitewater rafting, kayaking, canoeing, trail running, gold panning, fishing to name just a few. [click to continue…]

Snowy Red Barn

by Sherri on February 28, 2009

Snowy red barn, rural Auburn, California.

This photo of the snowy red barn was also taken the day of my photo adventure across the Foresthill Bridge.

Here is another photo of the same red barn, that I took a couple of years ago. I have always had a love and attraction for old barns, in particular red ones.

Foresthill Bridge in the Snow

by Sherri on February 27, 2009

Foresthill Bridge in the snow, Auburn, California.

After photographing the American River from the Foresthill Bridge, I walked around near the parking area to get a photo of the bridge itself.

This bridge stands over 700 feet tall, is the tallest bridge in California and the third tallest bridge in the country.

As many times as I have driven over it, walked under it and viewed it from many different perspectives, I had never seen it in the snow and had never walked across it until February 13, 2009!

North Fork of the American River

by Sherri on February 23, 2009

North Fork of the American River, taken from the Foresthill Bridge, Auburn, California.

This shot of the North Fork of the American River takes in more of the surrounding area, than the photo I posted last week. I also wanted to include the snow in this one. After all, that was the main reason I went on my photo adventure the day this was taken.

American River From a Different Perspective

by Sherri on February 19, 2009

North Fork of the American River, as seen from the Foresthill Bridge, Auburn, California.

If this view of the American River doesn’t make you want to walk across the Foresthill Bridge, most likely nothing will.

You are looking towards one of our favorite lakes in the area, Lake Clementine. This is the section of river just below the dam. In the bottom of the photo on the left you will see a big rock. That is a diving rock at one of the most popular swimming holes in the area, Clark’s Hole. We used to lug our chairs and icebox here nearly every weekend in the summer months. [click to continue…]

Photo Adventure on the Foresthill Bridge

by Sherri on February 17, 2009

Crossing the famous Foresthill Bridge, Auburn, California.

When I set out on my photo adventure this past Friday, I had no idea I would be walking across the Foresthill Bridge for the first time in 22 years.

Someday, I was going to walk across this bridge. But, I needed a really good reason first. Although I always wanted to do it, the thought of it gave me the creeps, that is until this past Friday. [click to continue…]

Winter Wonderland

by Sherri on February 15, 2009

Our cabin in the snow, Auburn, California.

Friday the 13th was a great day here in Auburn. After having several low snowfalls this year that didn’t stick, we finally had one that did. That day turned out to be quite an adventure for me; one that I’m not likely to forget anytime soon.

If you’ve been following this Photo Blog, you are aware that I’ve been really sick and have had a bad case of “cabin fever.” Well, thanks to the snowfall we had on Friday the 13th, that is all history now. As sick as I was, there was nothing that was going to keep me from going on a photo adventure. I’m sure glad I did, because it was just what the doctor ordered.

My photo adventure began with a walk around my neighborhood. That was great. But, what I did next was something I’ve put off for 22 years. Check back soon to find out what that was.

Maile’s First Solo Flight

by Sherri on January 25, 2009

Maile Brossa taking her first solo paragliding flight, Cronan Ranch Regional Trails park, Pilot Hill, California.

Recently, I wrote about a gal paragliding over the Sierra Foothill’s. Thanks to Philip Green for stumbling across my previous post and for contacting me to let me know who she was.

This is Maile Brossa. She was here visiting from Paris, France. This was her first solo flight and I just happened to catch it on film!

She was here with her instructors, the Acrotwins, who are acro paraglider pilots. They are ranked #1 in the USA and 7th in the worlds top acro pilots.

The traffic on this Blog has been crazy all week because of that post. Fortunatley, I took a few photos that day and the photo above is another one of my favorites of Maile’s first solo flight.

Back to the Ranch

by Sherri on January 22, 2009

Group of women horseback riding at the Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park, Pilot Hill, California.

Wow, I didn’t realize there was more than 1 all female group out for a trail ride that day.

If I remember correctly, this group does this every year on New Year’s Day. Sounds good to me. Anyone have an extra horse for next year?
