Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

by Sherri on December 24, 2010

This image was taken last winter in Auburn, California, during a low snowfall!

Hi everyone!

Wow. It’s very hard to believe that another fantastic year is coming to an end!

We hope you all are having a great holiday season this year as we are. We have been busy making homemade goodies once again and hoping for a “White Christmas” as always. We will be spending Christmas at home with family and kicking back in front of the wood stove drinking Mandarini’s, eating homemade caramels and a slow cooked meal from the crock pot.

By the way, Jeff is finally getting his Dutch Oven for Christmas. It’s not a secret, so it’s okay to mention here. He is so excited about it and so am I!

We are hoping to get out and do a little cross country skiing or snowshoeing too. We will have to work off all of the caramels and other delightful goodies that will surely pack on the pounds!

I would love to know how you all are spending your holidays. You can add it below in the comments section, or on Facebook if you prefer.

Happy Holidays,

Sherri & Jeff

“Transition”

by Sherri on November 20, 2010

This image was captured last year in my rural Auburn, CA neighborhood.

Yesterday, I posted this image on my Facebook Business Fan Page, but under a different name; not a name as good as “Transition!” That name was inspired by a comment one of my Fans made about this image. Thank you, Bob!

We have a great chance of getting snow this weekend, where we live in Auburn at the 1,600 foot level. You can bet, I will be out hunting for good things to capture in the snow if it does. We typically get a low snow in Auburn 1-3 times per year and it is a BIG deal to most of us!

We all ready for it. We have plenty of firewood for the wood stove, homemade soup, beer, love, great music and more!

I hope to have some images from the much talked about storm to share with you next week. Stay tuned!

Cheers,

~Sherri

Banner Cascade Trail: Nevada City, CA

by Sherri on October 25, 2010

Banner-Cascade-Trail

Sherri Meyer & Cocoa hiking on the Banner Cascade Trail in Nevada City, California.

Our fall color scouting trip to Nevada City last Thursday didn’t yield quite what we were expecting. We went to check on the fall color for my upcoming Photo Tour & Workshop. It was scheduled for yesterday. It’s a good thing I postponed it due to the lack of color, as this area got dumped on yesterday (6.5 inches of rain at our house)!

According to what I had been reading, the trees were starting to turn a couple of weeks ago. We expected it to look like it did in this photo of Downtown Nevada City, which was taken two years ago almost to the day!

The best laid plans don’t always work out. We made the most of the day anyway. We found a great hiking trail, the “Banner Cascade Trail.” It parallels a four and one-half mile segment of the Lower Cascade Canal between Red Dog Road and Gracie Road, near Nevada City. It is level and great for hiking, biking and running. Leashed dogs are welcome too!

We only had enough time to hike two miles and capture a few Outdoor Lifestyle images, before turning around. The four mile hike was time well spent! 🙂

NOTE: There is still time to book my half-day Old Town Auburn Fall Color Photo Tour & Workshop, or my full day American River & Old Town Auburn Fall Color Photo Tour & Workshop. We should have some really great color by then!

Cheers,

Sherri

Amgen-2010-3

The Amgen Tour of California, as they rolled through mile 43.5 at the Confluence of the American River, Auburn, California.

Last Sunday, we had the incredible opportunity to shoot Stage 1 (Nevada City to Sacramento) of the Amgen Tour of California, as they were rolling through Auburn. What a sight to see. One word describes it all – FAST. It was definitely the most challenging event I have ever photographed!

An estimated 30,000-40,000 people cheered them on up here in the Sierra Foothills, with an estimated 100,000 people cheering them on in Sacramento. The great thing about this event was it was so spread out, it never felt crowded.

A friend of ours, Donna, asked us for tips on shooting the race. She will be shooting Stage 5 (Visalia to Bakersfield) on Thursday. We hope you find these tips helpful Donna and good luck! [click to continue…]

You will need to let me know where you want the print shipped to and which image you would like. I will also announce the lucky winner on Facebook.

Happy New Year, End of the Decade & Blue Moon!

by Sherri on December 31, 2009

Christmas-Lights

Believe it or not, this is our Christmas Tree!

WOW – what an amazing day today is. It is the end of a year. It is the end of a decade. If that’s not enough to get excited about, there will also be a “Blue Moon” tonight!

About the photo

Just for fun, I decided to try waving my camera around in various patterns at our Christmas tree, while using a slow shutter speed. I tried a few different shutter speeds, before deciding on a 3 second exposure. That gave me plenty of time to get some really nice effects. I really like the results and I plan on trying a lot more new things in the new year!

When was the last time you tried something for the first time? Why not make 2010 the year for trying new things?

Cheers,

Sherri

This is one of my favorite holiday decorations in Auburn this year. I captured this photo during our photo adventure, the day of our big Sierra Snowstorm a couple of weeks ago.
