Cronan Ranch Cowgirls

by Sherri on February 13, 2012

Horseback riding at the Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park, near Coloma, CA.

Does anyone out there know who these cowgirls are? Since I am friends with a lot of horsy people on Facebook, I figured someone might know them. I would love for them to see this photo. They were some of the best and most fun riders I have photographed at the Ranch.

If you do know them (or any of them), please email me at: sherri@sherrimeyer.com.

Thank you,

“Cowboy Jeff”

Cowboy Jeff #2 - Rounding up the cows at Hidden Creek Ranch, Harrison, Idaho.

Okay ya’ all. I need your help on this one. I have a customer that is going to order one of these two images, but she wants me to select the one I think would look the best framed in BARN WOOD and hung in their family cabin.

I love them both too, but that is tough for me to do all by myself. Which one do YOU think she should order?

  1. Cowboy Jeff #1 or
  2. Cowboy Jeff #2

You can put your choice in the comments section below, or on my Facebook Page.

Many thanks to everyone for your HELP!

Love Comes Softly Movie Set

by Sherri on February 1, 2012

Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park, near Coloma, California.

This little cabin is part of a movie set from Michael Landon Jr.’s series “Love Comes Softly.” It is quite picturesque and is located at one of the Sierra Foothills newest parks. This isn’t the only awesome thing to see and photograph here, however.

People come here from as far away as France to leap off the hillside in their paragliders. It is also a very popular place to horseback ride, run, mountain bike, hike, picnic and a host of other things. Don’t forget to bring Fido. It is a dog friendly park as well…but please keep them leashed. Horses and dogs don’t always get along. I almost forget to tell you that you can also hike right down to the river and watch the whitewater rafters and kayakers pass by on one of the most popular whitewater runs in the country…the South Fork of the American River!

I will be leading at least 1 Photo Workshop and hike here this spring. Space will be limited. If you would like information on this Workshop when it becomes available, you can email us at: sherri@sherrimeyer.com, or sign up to receive our Photo Newsletters.

Top 10 Images of 2011

by Sherri on December 30, 2011

#1 - "Gold Lake Sunrise"

It was really hard to limit this selection to just 10 images…but here are 10 of my favorites in random order. I chose them based on several factors; most popular, most fun to create and just because they are some of my personal favorites.

Image #1 – This image was selected because it has had repeat sales and I LOVE Gold Lake! To see this image larger and to learn more about it please see Gold Lake Sunrise.

#2 - "American River Abstract" - Auburn, California.

Image #2 – This abstract of the American River is a favorite, because it was one of my first successful nature abstract images. To see this image larger and to learn more about it, please see American River Abstract.

#3 - "Ponderosa Paradise"

Image #3 – Ponderosa Paradise is one of my newest images. What I really love about this one is the lovely patterns on the wall. This was the first time we had been there when the water level was low enough to see them. What a treat! To see this one larger and to learn more about it, please see Ponderosa Paradise.

#4 - "Portrait of a Buck"

Image #4 – This photo of the Buck was taken in my front yard. I keep my camera handy with the long lens mounted on it, for moments like this. I shot this one through the glass on our French Door, otherwise our dog, Cocoa, would have gone out on the deck and scared it away before I got my photos. Sometimes, you just have to make sacrifices to get the shot! To see this image larger and to learn more about it, please see Portrait of a Buck.

#5 - "Bluegrass"

Image #5 -ร‚ย  This is an example of making something out of nothing! I headed out one very cold and frosty morning for a walk. I was almost positive there would be something to shoot, due to the frost. I only got as far as the bottom of our driveway, when I noticed the grass in our neighbor’s pasture looked promising for a nature abstract. This is what I walked away with. To see this image larger and to learn more about it, please see Bluegrass.

#6 - "Purple Mountains Majesty"

Image #6 – You must be an early riser to get photos like this. Staying in that warm, cozy sleeping bag = big photo opportunities missed! I am never sorry when I make myself get up early! To see this image larger and to learn more about it, please see Purple Mountains Majesty.

#7 - Kayaking Gold Lake at Sunset #1

Image #7 – My dear friend, Peg, who is in many of my photos and who also LOVES to kayak looked so peaceful out there on the lake, I just had to shoot her! ๐Ÿ™‚ When photographing people doing things, it’s always a good idea to have them participating in the things they enjoy. I remember asking someone who doesn’t run to run for me for photos once. Guess what? They were horrible. Lesson learned! To see this one larger and to learn more about it, please see Kayaking Gold Lake.

#8 - "Fire on the Mountains"

Image #8 – This image was taken from nearly the same spot and 30 minutes apart from image #6 above. The only difference was I was looking East for Purple Mountain Majesty and West for this one. Another example of what you can capture when you crawl out of your warm, cozy sleeping bag early in the morning! To see this one larger and to learn more about it, please see Fire on the Mountains.

#9 - "Pine Tree Abstract"

Image #9 – No one has ever guessed how this image was created. This is not a real Pine Tree. This is my lampshade. I used a really slow shutter speed and a long lens. Then, I panned the tree vertically, using the continuous shooting mode making many images; some good and some not so good. When ever you do experimental shots like this it is hard to predict how they are going to turn out, so you need to take lot’s of them! To see this image larger, please see Pine Tree Abstract.

#10 - Kayaking Gold Lake at Sunset #2

Image #10 – Last, but not least, here is another one of my friend, Peg, kayaking on Gold Lake at sunset. The sky was fabulous the night this was taken and she was a great model as always! To see this image larger, please see Kayaking Gold Lake.

Face in the Desert

by Sherri on December 12, 2011

Abstract of a face in Death Valley National Park, California.

What do you do when YOU wake up at 3:30 in the morning and you can’t get back to sleep? I jump on the computer and get an early start to my day. It’s better than lying there thinking about all the stuff I could be doing!

Yesterday, we upgraded to Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3…FINALLY! So, this morning, I started working with it…NICE! The image above “Face in the Desert” is the first image I have developed using LR 3.

I will be spending many hours between now and the end of the year re-organizing our catalogs, editing and developing new images and getting ready for 2012. ๐Ÿ™‚

Cheers,

Auburn Photo Tour & Workshop

by Sherri on June 28, 2011

My Photo Tour/Workshop participants capturing images of the very beautiful & historical Auburn Courthouse, Auburn, CA.

My Old Town Auburn/American River Photo Tour & Workshop this past Sunday was a blast! I got to spend several hours with two really neat women Martha & Diane, now known as the “Nikon Girls!”

We began our Tour in Old Town and our first stop was the iconic Auburn Courthouse. We photographed it from various angles, using a variety of lenses. For this photo, I added a Polarizer to further enhance the already brilliant blue sky; also to bring out the color of the exterior walls. Diane wanted to learn how to use her Polarizer, so this was theร‚ย  perfect opportunity.

The Auburn Courthouse is always a pleasure to photograph. See more photos of the Historic Auburn Courthouse.

You can see more photos from this fun day on my Facebook Photography Page.

Cheers,

Mandarini Recipe

by Sherri on December 29, 2010

Abstract of an unidentified plant that grows in our neighborhood.

This year for Christmas, we made Mandarini’s. They are wonderful, especially if you don’t really like the taste of liquor, like me. When I wrote my Christmas post last week, that generated a lot of interest on Facebook for the recipe.

So, here it is folks…just in time for your New Year’s Eve celebration! But, please make sure you have a designated driver. These go down like a glass of Mandarin Juice!

MANDARINI’S

6 C Mandarin Juice

3 T Lemon Juice

3 T Lemon Rind

3 T Mandarin Rind

1 C Warm Water

3/4 C Sugar -ร‚ย  I would cut back just a tad next time!

Vodka to taste. We used about 1/3 of a bottle of SKYY Vodka (750 ml bottle), but any Vodka will do!

Freeze overnight and serve.

I would love to know in the comments section below how you like them. Thanks!

Enjoy and Happy New Year!

~Sherri
