Donna & Maya Bussinger rafting on the Middle Fork of the American River, Auburn, California.
Yesterday was awesome! Jeff & I had the great opportunity to raft the Middle Fork of the American River (between Driver's Flat and Mammoth Bar), with our friend Donna and her 4-year old daughter Maya.
This section of the the American River doesn't draw the hoards of tourists from the Bay Area and LA like the South Fork does. There are a few reasons why. For one thing, it is only 7-miles in length. It also consists of only Class I & II rapids. Lastly, not many know about this run, which is why we love it so much. Now, I know after writing this a few more people will know about it. But, hey, if I don't write about it someone else will. It may as well be me!
- We are adding a collection of new images to our on-line galleries.
- Some of our images are getting moved to our new archive, but they will still be available for purchasing as prints and for licensing.
- We are preparing to offer a few new services. I'll keep those a secret for now.
- We will be rescanning some of our slides.
- And more...
- The water is warm, clear and has a sandy bottom.
- There are many islands to paddle to and camp on.
- The water is calm most of the time.
- The scenery is beautiful in every direction.
- It's not too big or too small. It's the perfect paddle lake!
This photo was captured as Jeff, Kim and I were heading for the Lily Pond that Jeff had discovered earlier that day. We were starting to get a little nervous, as thunder bumpers were rolling in. The last place we wanted to be during a storm is in a boat on the lake!
Fortunately, the threatening looking sky rolled out of there about as fast as it rolled in. We were happy little kayakers once again!

This is a very typical scene at Utica Reservoir. If you are into kayaking or canoeing and you have a dog or two, then Utica Reservoir is for YOU!
We fit right in here. We have a dog and we love to kayak and canoe. I've never seen so many people paddling with their dogs as I did here. It was really fun to witness!
More photos of our adventure to Utica Reservoir to come!

This photo was taken the first morning during our camping trip to Utica Reservoir. Typically, I like to include people in my photographs, but I had to bag that idea for this photo. I was the only one up!

We are back. We just spent 6 days at Utica Reservoir and it is just as wonderful as it was 26 years ago!
This photo is one of many I will be sharing during the coming weeks. We came back with hundreds of fresh images and we covered just about everything on our shoot list. It was one of the most successful photographic adventures to date.
Things are quite piled up around here everywhere you look. I sure hope we don't have any drop-in company any time soon. It looks like a tornado touched down in our house.
That said, I'm not quite sure when the next post will be. But, hopefully it will be worth the wait.
Be back soon.

We are also in the process of developing a large collection of new active baby boomer images. We hope to have them in our galleries soon after returning from our trip. After our return, we will also be making a few changes to our Website.
Before I forget, there is one other thing that I want to mention. I have started a new group on Facebook called "Adobe Photoshop Lightroom." If you currently use Lightroom or are planning to use it, this group might be of interest to you. To join, click on this Adobe Photoshop Lightroom link.
Our Travel Plans
We will be heading out on Wednesday 7/29 for a few days. We will be camping in Alpine County, California. Other counties we will be traveling through are: Placer, El Dorado, Amador, Calaveras and Tuolumne. We are leaving the computer behind. My eyes need a break from the screen BIG time! I'm sure some of you can relate to this. We will also be without Internet Service. That will give us more time for photographing and adventure! Following is a partial list of subjects we plan on shooting during our visit to Alpine County.

Photo #1 - Historic Auburn Courthouse, Auburn, California.
This beautiful building has become one of my favorite local subjects to photograph. It is so close to home, I can return and capture it's beauty each season, at different times of the day and under many different lighting situations!
Photo # 2 - This is what the photo looked like straight out of the camera.
The Makeover - (Lightroom)
- Added +25 fill light.
- Adjusted the Clarity to +100.
- Adjusted the Vibrance to +60.

I chose to feature this photo in my "Wednesday's WOW" post for a couple of reasons.
First of all, I really like it and secondly the annual Western States 100 Endurance Run is coming up June 27-28. If you have never heard of this race, it is a 100-mile foot race which starts in Squaw Valley, California and winds up in Auburn, California 100-miles later. The participants of this race will cross No Hands Bridge minutes before reaching the finish line at Placer High School. NOTE: This bridge is in both El Dorado and Placer counties. [click to continue…]
