Foresthill Bridge in the Snow

by Sherri on February 27, 2009

Foresthill Bridge in the snow, Auburn, California. After photographing the American River from the Foresthill Bridge, I walked around near the parking area to get a photo of the bridge itself. This bridge stands over 700 feet tall, is the tallest bridge in California and the third tallest bridge in the country. As many times as I have driven over it, walked under it and viewed it from many different perspectives, I had never seen it in the snow and had never walked across it until February 13, 2009! North Fork of the American River

by Sherri on February 23, 2009

North Fork of the American River, taken from the Foresthill Bridge, Auburn, California. This shot of the North Fork of the American River takes in more of the surrounding area, than the photo I posted last week. I also wanted to include the snow in this one. After all, that was the main reason I went on my photo adventure the day this was taken. Thank you for visiting. American River From a Different Perspective

by Sherri on February 19, 2009

North Fork of the American River, as seen from the Foresthill Bridge, Auburn, California.

If this view of the American River doesn't make you want to walk across the Foresthill Bridge, most likely nothing will. You are looking towards one of our favorite lakes in the area, Lake Clementine. This is the section of river just below the dam. In the bottom of the photo on the left you will see a big rock. That is a diving rock at one of the most popular swimming holes in the area, Clark's Hole. We used to lug our chairs and icebox here nearly every weekend in the summer months. [click to continue…]

Photo Adventure on the Foresthill Bridge

by Sherri on February 17, 2009

Crossing the famous Foresthill Bridge, Auburn, California.

When I set out on my photo adventure this past Friday, I had no idea I would be walking across the Foresthill Bridge for the first time in 22 years. Someday, I was going to walk across this bridge. But, I needed a really good reason first. Although I always wanted to do it, the thought of it gave me the creeps, that is until this past Friday. [click to continue…]

Winter Wonderland

by Sherri on February 15, 2009

Our cabin in the snow, Auburn, California.

Friday the 13th was a great day here in Auburn. After having several low snowfalls this year that didn't stick, we finally had one that did. That day turned out to be quite an adventure for me; one that I'm not likely to forget anytime soon. If you've been following this Photo Blog, you are aware that I've been really sick and have had a bad case of "cabin fever." Well, thanks to the snowfall we had on Friday the 13th, that is all history now. As sick as I was, there was nothing that was going to keep me from going on a photo adventure. I'm sure glad I did, because it was just what the doctor ordered. My photo adventure began with a walk around my neighborhood. That was great. But, what I did next was something I've put off for 22 years. Check back soon to find out what that was. Thank you for visiting. Low Snow in Auburn

by Sherri on December 26, 2008

Jeff & Cocoa walking in our neighborhood during a low snowfall, Auburn, CA Well, we didn't get the "White Christmas" we were hoping for. But, we have had a couple of low snowfalls recently. Unfortunately, the snow didn't stick either time. We still have a lot of winter ahead of us. We could still get a snowfall like you see in the photo in my "Merry Christmas" post. Thank you for visiting. If you would like to leave a comment, simply click on the "comments" link (add your message in the box) at the bottom of this post. Merry Christmas From Auburn, CA

by Sherri on December 24, 2008

Snowy Red Barn, Auburn, California, taken in March 2006. Merry Christmas everyone! We hope those of you that read this blog are having a wonderful holiday season this year. We have been really busy making photo gifts again this year and hoping for a "White Christmas." There is actually a really good chance that we will have one this year. The snow is supposed to get down to the 1,500 foot level or lower, sometime tomorrow on Christmas Day. If we do, that would make 2 in 20 years for us. That is pretty good, considering our elevation is only 1,600 feet and we only get a couple of snowfalls per year! Hopefully, I will have some photos of our "White Christmas" here in the Sierra Foothill's to share with the readers of this Blog in a couple of days! Thank you for visiting. Old Town Auburn Icons

by Sherri on December 21, 2008

Auburn Volunteer Fire Department with the Auburn Courthouse in the background, Old Town Auburn, California.

Two of the most famous icons in Old Town Auburn are no doubt the Auburn Volunteer Fire Department and the Auburn Courthouse. This photo was also captured during the same photo shoot as the photos in my last 2 posts. It was shot at ISO 6400. While developing this image, I decided to apply my favorite artistic filter in PhotoShop "Poster Edges." It works really well on old buildings. I hope you like it too! Thank you for visiting. Auburn Courthouse Aglow

by Sherri on December 18, 2008

Historic Auburn Courthouse at night, Old Town Auburn, California This shot was also taken during our recent visit to Old Town, to check out the holiday decorations. I have photographed this beauty several times before, but never from this perspective and never at night. Most of the shots that were taken during this photo shoot were shot at ISO 3200 and 6400. This one was shot at ISO 6400. It was a really good opportunity to put the Nikon D300 to the high ISO test. It also gave me a good reason to experiment with the Noise Reduction feature in Adobe Lightroom 2. I am very pleased with the results. I highly recommend the Nikon D300, to anyone looking for an affordable Pro-level Nikon DSLR camera. I am also blown away by the features and performance of Lightroom 2 and I highly recommend that as well. Thank you for visiting.
