Sugar Pine Reservoir is one of our favorite spots to visit in the summer. It’s only about 45 minutes from Auburn and it’s a great spot to kayak, canoe, fish, picnic, hike, bike, run, swim and camp.

My husband and I usually bring our kayaks or our canoe and our hiking shoes and make a day trip out of it, although we have camped there a couple of times. We like to hike the 3.5-mile loop trail around the lake, then put our boats on the water for some great paddling. Our dog, Cocoa, is always with us when we visit Sugar Pine, as it is one of her favorite “dog friendly” spots too!  After awhile of paddling, she is ready (and so are we) to hang out at our favorite spot along the shore.

During the winter months, nearby China Wall Staging Area is a popular spot for Cross Country Skiing, Snowshoeing, Sled-Dogging and Snowmobiling. There are also other great spots near China Wall and Sugar Pine to play in the snow.

Foresthill is booming right now. That is one reason why we are going to be adding new Foresthill photos to our galleries soon, along with other popular subjects.

During the next few weeks, we will be processing lots of new images to add to our galleries. And many of the images we will be adding have been featured on this blog during the past few months. Here is a partial list of subjects we will be working on.

This photo was taken on the same day the waterfall photo was taken. We were hiking on the right side of the river on the Western States Trail in El Dorado County. Had we been hiking on the other side of the river, we would have been hiking in Placer County.

Happy 1 Year Anniversary!

by Sherri on January 18, 2008

I just realized that I started this Blog one year ago today! I have also noticed over the course of the year, that a lot of people read my first blog entry. I did the same thing, when I was doing my research, before starting my Blog. And I bet a lot of you out there that have Blogs did too!

This first post was also one of my favorites of the year, so I thought it would be fun to repost it today.

Enjoy!

lt all depends on who you are. A friend and former resident of Auburn doesn’t think so. He like so many others stop here on their way to Reno or Lake Tahoe.

After examining our snowshoes yesterday, we discovered they were badly in need of repair. So, our day of snowshoeing turned into a day of hiking instead.

Auburn Snowfall

by Sherri on December 28, 2007

Well, we didn’t have a White Christmas! But, we did get a half inch or so of snow last night. Unfortunately, it has been melting all night and is almost gone. It was still exciting!

I am bringing my camera on my run this morning, if it doesn’t start raining. Hopefully, I will bring back something worth adding to this post later on.

Merry Christmas!

Photo – Self-portrait in a Christmas tree ornament, rural Auburn, CA

I was taking a walk in our neighborhood a few days ago with our dog, Cocoa. I took my camera along in hopes of finding something I could photograph, that I could use in this post.

As I was walking by this outdoor Christmas tree in our neighbors yard, I saw Cocoa and I in this ornament. I thought that would be perfect!

So, to everyone out there that follows this Blog, we wish you a Merry Christmas!

A Frosty December Morning in Rural Auburn

by Sherri on December 21, 2007

Photo – Horse in a rural Auburn, CA pasture

I’ve been trying to get a good shot of this horse, during my morning walks for quite sometime. On the days when the conditions were the best, I didn’t have my camera. Then, I would carry my camera and the conditions wouldn’t be good.

Finally, a couple of weeks ago, everying lined up. I brought my camera and I got there when the lighting was just right. There was also frost on the ground, which added greatly to the scene. It was worth the wait!
