Lakes & Rivers
Cocoa fishing at the American River, Weimar, California
When I was photographing this close up shot of the river, Cocoa walked into my frame. She and a guy jumping off of the bridge are making the ripples in the water.

Sue Hadley enjoying "A Day at the American River," Weimar, California.
Tomorrow is Sue's Birthday. Since she was here the day of this photo shoot on the American River, I thought this would be a good time to post this photo of her.
Keep up whatever you are doing Sue. You look great! We won't tell everyone how old you are, but you certainly don't look it!
Happy Birthday Sue!

Ripples on the American River, Weimar, California
This shot was taken at about 4:30 in the afternoon. The light was starting to get really good down in the American River Canyon. I was open to photographing anything that caught my eye that day.
I looked down at the crystal clear water and saw these beautiful ripples with blue streaks running through them. That was a photo opportunity I couldn't pass up!

Silhouette of horseback riders crossing the Ponderosa Bridge, Weimar, California.
One of my favorite "self-assignments" is to hang out at one location for several hours, then see how many photo opportunities I can come up with.
Last month, Jeff and I had company for the weekend. I suggested that we head for Ponderosa for the day, which is one of our favorite swimming holes on the American River. Our friends are both avid swimmers and hikers and this location offered both. That suited them just fine. As it turned out, they were some of my favorite subjects to photograph that day, out of the many opportunities I had.
This series "A Day at the River" to be continued...

Fallen Leaf Lake (foreground) and Lake Tahoe, California, taken from the Mount Tallac Trail.
After leaving Blue Lake, we drove south on 395 and headed for Fallen Leaf Campground, in South Lake Tahoe.
Some of our friends joined us there for the last leg of our road trip. While we were there, we hiked the spectacular Mount Tallac Trail.
This photo was taken during our hike. There are so many photos of Lake Tahoe that all look pretty much the same. I wanted to capture a more unique shot of this very popular subject.
Here is another post I wrote about our visit to Lake Tahoe.

Our own private beach at Lake Clementine, Auburn, California
Jeff, Jeff and I paddled for about an hour, then we stopped off at this beautiful spot for lunch. The shoreline at the upper end of the lake is dotted with beaches like this.
The next time we paddle here will hopefully be this winter. We have wanted to do a winter paddle here to view wildlife for years, but when winter comes we are usually cross country skiing, snowshoeing or hiking.
Maybe it's time to quit talking about it and "just do it!" I don't think we will be hanging out at the beach, however!

Lake Clementine, one of our favorite places to kayak and canoe. Soon, the upper end of the lake where we put in will be closing for the season and we wanted to do a fall paddle before that time comes.
The weather that day was perfect. It was in the mid to upper 80's and we had the lake to ourselves as Jeff (in the yellow kayak) was describing in this photo.
By the way, I just learned that kayaking is the new activity of choice for "Baby Boomers." That explains why we like it so much!
Note: The lower end of the lake is open year-round.

As I mentioned in my previous post, the next stop on our August Road Trip was Ahjumawi Lava Springs State Park. But, before I write about that mind blowing place, I wanted to share a little bit about what we have been shooting since that trip.

Baby Boomer Sherri Meyer viewing the spillway at Lake Clementine, Auburn, California (taken by Jeff Meyer).
A few days ago, I was reading Richard Wong's Photo Blog. He had put together an awesome slideshow, showcasing a selection of his travel images from his PhotoShelter Archive.
I thought that was such a brilliant idea, I decided to create my own slideshow, showcasing some of my favorite "Baby Boomer" images from MY PhotoShelter Archive.
You can view it here: Baby Boomer Stock Photography Slideshow.
View of Fallen Leaf Lake and Lake Tahoe, from the Mt. Tallac Trail, South Lake Tahoe, California
Our final destination during our road trip was Fallen Leaf Lake Campground, in South Lake Tahoe, California. We live less than 2 hours away from the most popular lake in the country (also known as "Lake in the sky"), but we usually avoid it because of the crowds.

Our living room shot with my new Tokina 12-24mm super wide-angle lens.
Wow! Our living room never looked so big! This was the first photo taken with my new super wide- angle lens. So far so good!
Jeff and I will be leaving soon on a "Road Trip," exploring and photographing new territory in Northeastern California and the Lake Tahoe Region.
I would have eventually purchased this lens along with my new Nikon D-300, but just before a trip like this seemed like the time to take the plunge. I have been experimenting with this lens and I'm loving it, but IÂ haven't really tried out the camera yet. That is on the agenda for this weekend.
After comparison shopping on the Internet, I found the best deals through B&H Photo in New York. Not only were their prices lower than anywhere else, their service was impeccable.
I will be writing more about our upcoming trip in a future post, as well as posting a photo or two taken on the D-300.
