Sulphur Works, Lassen National Park, California
This is one hydrothermal area you can check out that is “dog friendly.” It is just a short walk from the Southwest Entrance Station.
View of Fallen Leaf Lake and Lake Tahoe, from the Mt. Tallac Trail, South Lake Tahoe, California
Our final destination during our road trip was Fallen Leaf Lake Campground, in South Lake Tahoe, California. We live less than 2 hours away from the most popular lake in the country (also known as “Lake in the sky”), but we usually avoid it because of the crowds.

This photograph was also taken at Ashford Park, the same day the photo I posted yesterday was taken.

Jeff & Cocoa, Ashford Park, Auburn, California
Ashford Park is located in front of the Ashley Memorial Dog Park, on Auburn Ravine Road. It has a nice lawn area, picnic tables, BBQ’s, playground, seasonal creek, pond, one lone duck and an area you can rent for parties, for a very nominal fee.
After we spend an hour or so at the dog park, we like to visit this spot. During the late afternoon, the light here is what photographer’s refer to as “golden light,” or “sweet light.”
It’s the perfect time to capture a few “lifestyle” images of Jeff and Cocoa that will be added to our Lifestyles Stock Photo Gallery.

One of the most spectacular locations to enjoy and photograph wildflowers in the Sierra Foothills is without a doubt the Windy Point Trail. [click to continue…]
Pan shot of a woman mountain biking the Stagecoach Trail, ASRA, Auburn, CA
The Stagecoach Trail is the #1 trail of the Clementine Loop Trail. It starts at Russell Road (off of Lincoln Way) in Auburn and ends about 2-miles later at the North Fork of the American River. If you plan to continue on here to trail # 2, cross over the Old Foresthill Road Bridge and hook up with the Clementine Trail on the left.
This trail is considered a beginner/intermediate trail. It’s an old fire road, so it’s very wide all the way down to the river, which is the easy part. But, it’s downhill all the way. Which means, for those that want to turn around here and return to Russell Road, it’s all uphill and that bumps this trail up to intermediate.
Note: All the trails that make up the Clementine Loop Trail are great for hiking and running too. They are also “dog friendly” for leashed dogs.

Mother and daughter running on the Quarry Road Trail, Auburn State Recreation Area, Auburn, CA
If you are looking for a trail in the Auburn area suitable for baby strollers, the Quarry Road Trail can’t be beat! It parallels the Middle Fork of the American River, it’s easy and it’s wide.

Photo – Jeff and Cocoa hiking the Aspen lined Sagehen Creek Trail, near Truckee, CA
We didn’t quite make it to the end of the trail. We spent too much time photographing in this one beautiful meadow and we had plans to meet our friends later on in Sierraville. A couple of hikers that passed by, highly recommended that we keep going, as the Salmon were spawning near where Sagehen Creek and Stampede Reservoir meet. That was only about another half-mile further. I guess we will have to return, as we were also a couple weeks early for peak fall colors!

Cocoa gets one more chance to catch a fish on our return hike. One of her favorite things to do when we are near water is to fish. If we are staying in one place for several hours, she will spend most of the time along the shoreline fishing for minnows. She is so easily entertained!

Photo – Peg Challender and Mara Noelle hiking to the upper falls, Lake Faucherie, CA
Mara had checked out the swimming hole below the upper falls earlier in the day. She added that it was by far the best of the bunch to dip in. So later on, the 3 of us returned there for a little dipping and relaxation.

Photo – Hikers Peg Challender, Bill Stack and Dolly take a lunch break at Lake Faucherie Falls #2.
Now I know where the saying “Dog Tired†came from! Dolly was really living up to it. She had been hiking and boulder hopping for hours. When we returned to camp later in the day, she could hardly move. But, just like her Dad, Bill, she was a great sport!
