Donna Bussinger hiking at the Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park, Pilot Hill, California.

This is another one of my favorite shots taken the day of our hike. I love the simple, uncluttered composition. It also tells a story. You can tell that Donna is having a good time and she is active and healthy. She is also a Baby Boomer. I took this photo because it will work well as a photo illustration in many different health related publications, as well as in advertisements. Thank you for visiting. Snow Update for China Wall

by Sherri on January 8, 2009

Sherri X-CÂ Skiing with Cocoa at China Wall OHV Staging Area, Foresthill, California.

My series on the Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park will continue soon, after I give a snow update on China Wall. One of the most popular searches on this Photo Blog currently is for the snow conditions at China Wall. Since Jeff and I took the day off on Tuesday to cross country ski there, I thought I would give a snow update for those of you looking for information on this location. I am pleased to report that there was about 3 feet of good snow. China Wall is one of our favorite spots to ski and snowshoe. It is close to where we live in Auburn. We can take our dog, Cocoa. There is no fee. There are no crowds. And there is no traffic getting there, compared to traveling up highway 80. What more can you ask for? NOTE: There are usually a few very courteous snowmobilers up there. But, if you want to avoid them, the best time to go is mid-week. There is also plenty of area for you to ski on, where they don't go. For more information on China Wall, please refer to my other posts under the Foresthill Category. Thank you for visiting. PhotoShop CS3 to the Rescue!

by Sherri on January 7, 2009

Donna & Maya Bussinger looking through the window of the cabin at Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park, Pilot Hill, California Thanks to PhotoShop CS3, we were able to get one good photo from the two that I took of this scene. In most cases, I take at least 1 horizonal and 1 vertical of everything I photograph. It's always a good idea when you have a good scene in front of you to take more than 1 photo of it. You may never have a 2nd opportunity. This time it was absolutely vital that I did take the 2nd photo. This is what happened. The horizontal photo was really good of Maya (girl) and the vertical photo was better of Donna (Mom). Now, here is where PhotoShop CS3 came to our rescue. We were able to cut Donna's face from the vertical shot and replace her face in the horizontal with the good one. This is something we have never tried before until now. We are really pleased with the results. Thank you for visiting. If you would like to leave a comment, simply click on the "comments" link (add your message in the box) at the bottom of this post. Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park

by Sherri on January 4, 2009

Donna & Maya Bussinger hiking at Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park, Pilot Hill, California. A hike on one of the newest trail systems in our area was the perfect way to spend New Year's Day! Jeff & I have known about this park for a couple of years or so (opened in 2005), but we hadn't checked it out until this week. We spent the afternoon hiking with our friend Donna and daughter Maya, at highly recommended Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park. If you are looking for a great place to hike, run, mountain bike and horseback ride (to name just a few) in the Sierra Foothill's, this is the place! [click to continue…]

Happy New Year!

by Sherri on December 31, 2008

Cross Country Skiing off of highway 20, Nevada County, California. Happy New Year Everyone! It's hard to believe another year has blown by. When I was growing up my Mother always told me "The older you get the faster the years go by." She was right! This photo was taken a couple of years ago. We have only been skiing once since that time. That was last year. Two of the things I want to do more of this year is to ski and snowshoe. I remember saying the same thing last year. It's a good thing the one day we did ski last year was one of the best EVER! Other things on the list for 2009 are to do a winter paddle on nearby Lake Clementine, get more regular with my Yoga workouts and playing the guitar. Then there is that one thing that lands on nearly everyone's list; losing weight. This by no means is a complete list. But, these are definitely some of the most important ones on my list. I hope I'm not writing this same list a year from now! What is on your list for 2009? Thank you for visiting. More Quad Fun!

by Sherri on December 15, 2008

Jeff having fun on his new Quad, Auburn, California I was hoping to post a photo of snowfall in Auburn today. But, the temp needs to drop a couple of degrees or so, for the rain to turn into snow. It did snow on and off here yesterday, but not enough to stick. Right now, chain control is only about 5-miles away, so things could change any minute. We also hear that a couple more "low snow" storms are on their way. Who knows? Maybe we will even be able to use the snowplow that came with Jeff's Quad to plow our driveway, during this series of storms! That's not likely, but if that need should ever present itself, we will be prepared. Thank you for visiting. Off-Road Adventures in Auburn

by Sherri on December 12, 2008

Jeff trail riding his new Quad in rural Auburn, California You might remember reading a few months ago about us selling "Blue Thunder," our Toyota Landcruiser after owning it for 25 years. Well, Jeff did better parting with it than I did, because he had another goal in mind. He wanted a Quad. A couple weeks ago, we took it to an area near where we live for a photo shoot. We had scouted this area out a few times before the timing was right. I wanted to see dust flying behind him, which I wasn't going to get soon after a rainfall. I also wanted great backlighting and fall colors. Waiting a couple of weeks until those elements all came together really paid off. We ended up with over a 100 keepers from this shoot. Although I'm not into the sport myself, I will have to say this was one of the most exciting photo shoots I've ever done! Thank you for visiting. by Sherri on November 24, 2008

Sue Hadley enjoying "A Day at the American River," Weimar, California. Tomorrow is Sue's Birthday. Since she was here the day of this photo shoot on the American River, I thought this would be a good time to post this photo of her. Keep up whatever you are doing Sue. You look great! We won't tell everyone how old you are, but you certainly don't look it! Happy Birthday Sue! Visit our Website for links to photo galleries.

Paddle Pals

by Sherri on October 25, 2008

Jeff & Cocoa (Dirt Road Dawg) heading out for an afternoon paddle, at Ahjumawi Lava Springs State Park.

Poor Jeff. He usually has the dog in his kayak, because I usually have the camera in mine. The 2 don't mix, as you have probably figured out. We paddled out to the first campsite to check it out. We got a late start and we had a dog with us, which slows us down. So, the first campsite was as far as we were gonna get that day. That was okay. It was a scouting trip after all! We hung out there for 3-4 hours waiting for the light to get better for photography, before paddling back to the truck. I will post a couple more photos from our adventure next week.

Ahjumawi Lava Springs State Park

Jeff and Cocoa preparing for our kayak adventure, at Ahjumawi Lava Springs State Park, California. Notice Mount Shasta on the left.

Most people have never heard of California's Northeastern most State Park, Ahjumawi Lava Springs. I  hadn't heard of it either, until the name jumped out at me while reading over the California State Parks brochure. [click to continue…]
