Happy Trails Blue Thunder!
Off-road adventure into Utica Reservoir, Alpine County, California
Blue Thunder has been a part of our family for 25 years. But, unfortunately, the time has come that we will be finding it a new home soon.
I am a very sentimental person. So I am going to have a very hard time letting go of our 1971 Toyota Landcruiser FJ-40. To help me get through this, I will be writing about it and posting photos taken on some of our favorite off-road adventure trips in Blue Thunder.
The photo above was taken on the Utica Trail, on the way to Utica Reservoir in Alpine County, California. This was also my very first off-road adventure and one of my favorites to this day.
Utica Reservoir is a beautiful alpine lake, that can be entered via four wheel drive, or by a paved road. You can also choose to car camp in the main area, or paddle camp by canoe or kayak at the other end of the lake.
We still travel the backroads, but, now we travel with a little more creature comforts.
After all, we are 25 years older!

wow Sherri. that is amazing that your car has run for that long. I really dig the photo too because those rocks show how rough the terrain is.
Thanks Richard! You can’t go wrong with a Toyota! They just keep on going, just like the energizer bunny! We have 3 of them!
Yeah, the terrain was definately rough. Good excuse to be the photographer!
