Happy 4th of July

Happy 4th of July everyone. This day brings back lots of very fond memories, growing up in the East Foothills of San Jose, California. We always had family and friends over for a big BBQ, which as I recall included tons of corn on the cob, potatoe salad and homemade ice cream.
Then, as it started getting dark, everyone would either climb up on the roof, or set folding chairs out in the field nextdoor to watch the fireworks. We had a great view of several different fireworks displays down in the valley, without having to deal with traffic. Those were the good old days!
Now, I live in Auburn, California with my husband, Jeff. There are many great fireworks displays in this area too. But, the one we prefer is the one in Colfax, about 15 miles from Auburn. They put on the best display I have ever seen.Â
Our friend, Bill, has a big BBQ at his place. He lives at the top of a hill, that looks directly down towards town. It's the perfect location for a 4th of July get together. Then, as it starts getting dark, everyone lines their chairs up in the street in front of his house to watch the fireworks. This reminds me of the good old days!
Downtown Colfax also has festivities going on all day long. Included is live music, crafts, food and a parade. Unfortunately, we just got the bad news today that there will be no fireworks this year in Colfax, for the first time in 55 years (due to response teams being out of the area fighting other fires).
The good news is, if you were planning to watch the fireworks in Colfax on the 5th, you can still catch them in Auburn and some of the neighboring towns on the 4th!
What are your plans for the 4th of July weekend?
