I ran into some other marathon of sorts this morning at Nevada City. I found this nice row of trees on this one residential street before sunrise, but by the time I tried to get back there when the sun was up, the street was blocked off for the runners. That sucked.

btw, I tried to find parking this afternoon at Old Auburn but after four passes on the side streets I gave up. The antique festival looked cool though.

It would have been fun to have hooked up with you, but we had previous plans. Maybe next time you are up here. I’m sure you’ll be back! Christmas in the Gold Country is awesome, you should try again then.

You still amaze me. You just hop in the car at the last minute and drive from So Cal to the Gold Country. We would have had to plan that ahead and take a week!

Where did you stay? I read what you photographed on your Twitter message. That’s great that you were able to shoot all those locations, but unfortunate that you had some traffic problems. Yeah, this area has more things going on than Carter has pills!

We are hoping to make it to Nevada City this afternoon for some fall color before it’s gone. We missed the high country color this year, but we still have time for some more “fall in the foothills” shooting!

Can’t wait to see your pics!

For trips like this I’ve had the basic concepts for images floating in my mind for several years so i knew exactly what I wanted to shoot and where I wanted to do it. It was just a matter of finding a place to stay at the last minute. Found a Days Inn in Rancho Cordova on Expedia this time. The price was reasonable since I was only there two nights. For a place I’ve never been, I would have taken more time to prepare.

I think the colors were at peak at Nevada City in certain parts. There were certainly no rotten looking leaves. It seemed past peak in the Sutter Creek / Volcano area.

That’s pretty much how I do it too. I have ideas for a long time, but everything has to come together at once to make the trip happen. One of our obstacles is that in addition to Jeff being my business partner, he is still working a FT job. It is a challenge for us to get away sometimes. But, the good part is that we love where we live. So we travel a lot “in our own backyard!”

We did make it to Nevada City yesterday. We spent about 3 hours there. For a Monday, it was very busy. Every time I got set up to photograph, a car came around the corner. But, in the end, I came away with some great material. Darn – maybe too many “keepers!” I had better refer to your Digital Workflow post. Maybe it will make my job easier!

PS – I tried linking to your post, but for some reason it’s not working!

Here is the official URL to the workflow post. http://rwongphoto.com/fieldreport/2007/10/digital-photography-workflow-have-good.html I went to Nevada City before dawn and there were a few cars coming by every few minutes on the residentials but not so bad. No one was driving through downtown so that was good. A few years ago I tried to go there during midday but couldn’t find parking, so I guess it does get kind of crazy there.

I can relate to the FT job getting in the way. Last year I wasn’t able to see all the things I wanted to in KY. Not even close. But I did get some local shots. If I get another job one of these days, hopefully I can manage my time better.

Thanks Richard! That is the link I was adding. I went directly to the actual post link and copied and pasted it. But, I couldn’t get it to work on this end. But, we got it now! Thanks again.

Have fun editing all of your images!
