“Fenced In”
"Napoleon," our next door neighbor, Auburn, California
Jeff and I have been feeling a little "fenced in" lately, just like Napoleon. We were hoping to have our major update to our Website finished this weekend. We came really close, but not close enough.
We were ironing out some of the wrinkles and decided to upgrade our WordPress Photo Blog to 2.5.1, so everything would be updated at the same time. Since we would be generating a new site map for all of our new gallery pages, this seemed like the thing to do.
Well, we managed to get the blog upgraded. It wasn't easy. But, we did it. Not without problems, however. We ended up with capital A's with a funny line above them throughout our entire Photo Blog. If anyone out there following this Blog knows how to fix this, please let me know.
It could have been worse. Jim Goldstein wrote an excellent post on his recent experience upgrading to WordPress 2.5.1. He forgot to backup his data. Fortunately, he was able to recover it. That really stuck in our minds and we didn't want to repeat that nearly fatal mistake. Thank you Jim for the reminder.
We also had to choose a different theme, just like Jim did. That was a big disappointment, because I loved the old theme. But, when you upgrade you have to choose from themes that are compatible with 2.5.1. Oh, well, I guess change is good, just like the saying goes!
The new upgrade takes a little getting used to, but in the end it's worth it. We still have some massaging to do on the Photo Blog as well. For instance, replacing the header photo with the image that was on our old Blog, creating links to our Website etc.
But, now, we do see the light at the end of the tunnel!
