Fall in the Foothills – Nevada City, CA #2
Photo #1Â - Rock Shop in Nevada City, CA
While wandering around Nevada City in search of fall color, we stumbled upon this little Rock Shop. I found it so interesting and unique, I had to shoot the h**l out of it! When you have a great subject in front of you, it's always a good idea to shoot multiple frames. It's far easier than returning to the location later!

As I walked around to the other side, beautiful sidelighting was striking it. This turned out to be one of my favorite photo subjects of the day!

It really pays to get off of the main drag and visit some of the side streets. That is where you can often find the more unique subjects, not the ones everyone else shoots!

I really like the side lighting on this Sherri. And you got a white picket fence too! What is a rock shop, do they sell that New Age type of stuff like they do in Sedona?
Thanks Richard! I absolutely LOVE sidelighting!
This store was closed on Monday when we were there, so we didn’t get to go inside. In fact, it’s only open on the weekends. But, I believe they sell all types of rocks and I’m guessing they may specialize in rocks native to the area, probably a lot like Sedona???
I tried to find information about the store on the Internet, but didn’t have much luck.
When I was working on these images, I thought about you and your desire to photograph “white picket fences.”
Thanks, yeah I am on this conquest to photograph all the sentimental and sappy stuff that our country has to offer. 🙂
Sedona has this New Age stuff where some people believe the rocks have some psychic energy emanating from them. It’s weird.
Nevada City is very much like that too!
Also, I know how much you love NC, but are you aware of the radio station there? It’s called KVMR. You should check out their site at http://www.kvmr.org. You can listen to it on-line 24/7/365 and they play all types of music. Some of it, you can’t get anywhere else. They have a program schedule on their site, that tells you what’s playing and when.
