“Blue Ice”

by Sherri on February 28, 2011

A patch of ice, along the road in our neighborhood.

Abstracts can be made anywhere. This one was created the day after we had a low snowfall here in Auburn, California. It was 30 degrees outside. I knew there would be icy patches along the road during my morning walk, if I got out early enough. I really didn't want to brave the cold, but I knew it would pay off if I did! I welcome your questions or comments any old time. Cheers, Sherri Sherri Meyer Photography

Mandarini Recipe

by Sherri on December 29, 2010

Abstract of an unidentified plant that grows in our neighborhood.

This year for Christmas, we made Mandarini's. They are wonderful, especially if you don't really like the taste of liquor, like me. When I wrote my Christmas post last week, that generated a lot of interest on Facebook for the recipe. So, here it is folks...just in time for your New Year's Eve celebration! But, please make sure you have a designated driver. These go down like a glass of Mandarin Juice! MANDARINI'S 6 C Mandarin Juice 3 T Lemon Juice 3 T Lemon Rind 3 T Mandarin Rind 1 C Warm Water 3/4 C Sugar -  I would cut back just a tad next time! Vodka to taste. We used about 1/3 of a bottle of SKYY Vodka (750 ml bottle), but any Vodka will do! Freeze overnight and serve. I would love to know in the comments section below how you like them. Thanks! Enjoy and Happy New Year! ~Sherri

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

by Sherri on December 24, 2010

This image was taken last winter in Auburn, California, during a low snowfall!

Hi everyone! Wow. It's very hard to believe that another fantastic year is coming to an end! We hope you all are having a great holiday season this year as we are. We have been busy making homemade goodies once again and hoping for a "White Christmas" as always. We will be spending Christmas at home with family and kicking back in front of the wood stove drinking Mandarini's, eating homemade caramels and a slow cooked meal from the crock pot. By the way, Jeff is finally getting his Dutch Oven for Christmas. It's not a secret, so it's okay to mention here. He is so excited about it and so am I! We are hoping to get out and do a little cross country skiing or snowshoeing too. We will have to work off all of the caramels and other delightful goodies that will surely pack on the pounds! I would love to know how you all are spending your holidays. You can add it below in the comments section, or on Facebook if you prefer. Happy Holidays, Sherri & Jeff

Hi everyone! As we approach Christmas, I wanted to share a photo I captured of Old Town Auburn last year, just after a low snowfall. Desert Drama

by Sherri on December 7, 2010

Joshua Trees in the Mojave Desert, California.

When we first spotted these Joshua Trees, they didn't look all that great. The sun was still way too high in the sky. My goal was to locate the trees I wanted to shoot, then wait for the dramatic light. I knew there would be a great sunset, due to the amazing clouds in the sky. We waited it out for about 30 minutes. Then, just like I had hoped for, the drama began. The sun came through the clouds and lit up my landscape beautifully. I don't know how long it will be before we can make a trip back to the desert (hopefully not too long), so I shot a dozen or so different compositions of these Joshua Trees. This is one of my favorites! Questions or comments? I'm all ears! See ya! ~Sherri
