*Weekend Contest*
Hi everyone!
Please help me give this image a name. I am looking for something really special...not "American River Abstract!" I am going to run this contest for TWO DAYS ONLY, starting today. Monday morning, I will announce the winner. The person with the winning name will win 1 FREE 8x12 print from this "
Last Friday, I had the great opportunity to photograph my wonderful neighbor Joy & her adorable Grandson Liam. I spent 45 minutes with them and what a "Joy" that was.
It had been a long time since I photographed someone that didn't stay put for more than 30 seconds at a time. With young children like this, you have to work really fast. I had several ideas in my mind already of what photos I wanted to capture and when I saw the opportunity...I took it!
If you would like to see more photos from this shoot...hop on over to my "
Northeastern California Album this morning, I came across this photo of a barn I shot in Podunk Taylorsville, California. It was taken at noonish...the worst time of the day for photography in most cases. It had power lines in it, an ugly sky and was very close to getting tossed. Something told me to see if I could make a "keeper" out of it.
I made a virtual copy of the original file in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, converted it from color to antique and removed the power lines. From there, I took it into Photoshop CS3 and added the filter "poster edges." The difference is amazing...it went from an "Ugly Duckling" into something that inspires me.
This is what the original image looked like straight out of the camera! Did you find this tutorial helpful?

We have some exciting news to announce. We now have a series of Photo Workshops lined up for this Spring. They are going to be a ton of fun, as there are photo opportunities galore, at one of the newest and most spectacular parks in the Sierra Foothills. For more information...please read
Does anyone out there know who these cowgirls are? Since I am friends with a lot of horsy people on Facebook, I figured someone might know them. I would love for them to see this photo. They were some of the best and most fun riders I have photographed at the Ranch.
If you do know them (or any of them), please email me at: sherri@sherrimeyer.com.
Thank you,
~Sherri

This little cabin is part of a movie set from Michael Landon Jr.'s series "Love Comes Softly." It is quite picturesque and is located at one of the Sierra Foothills newest parks. This isn't the only awesome thing to see and photograph here, however.
People come here from as far away as France to leap off the hillside in their paragliders. It is also a very popular place to horseback ride, run, mountain bike, hike, picnic and a host of other things. Don't forget to bring Fido. It is a dog friendly park as well...but please keep them leashed. Horses and dogs don't always get along. I almost forget to tell you that you can also hike right down to the river and watch the whitewater rafters and kayakers pass by on one of the most popular whitewater runs in the country...the South Fork of the American River!
I will be leading at least 1 Photo Workshop and hike here this spring. Space will be limited. If you would like information on this Workshop when it becomes available, you can email us at: sherri@sherrimeyer.com, or sign up to receive our
Here is another one from our Eastern Sierra Adventure this past October. When Jeff & I travel this route, we always stop at this rest area for a break & hopefully for photos. This time, we timed it just right.
Many professionals would shoot this with a tripod and use a slow shutter speed to blur the water...but I was wanting something different. I opted for a fast shutter speed, thus giving more detail in the water.
Thanks for stopping by. Comments and questions are always welcomed and appreciated.
Have a great weekend,
~Sherri
