sc-la-pine-sp2.jpg Photo - Sherri and Cocoa take time out from their run - La Pine State Park Campground We couldn't get enough of this spot! Each morning during our 4-day stay, we would end up here. It was one of the only spots along the river we could access safely. Even so, we had to keep a tight handhold on the dog, as the river was deep right at the edge and moving fairly fast. She did fall in once and we barely got her out!

Canyon Creek Campground – Lake Faucherie, CA

Our campsite at Canyon Creek Campground, CA

Here are a couple more photos from our trip to Lake Faucherie and Canyon Creek in Nevada County. The photo above is of our campsite along Canyon Creek. We borrowed this tent trailer from our wonderful neighbors, who insist that we use it whenever we want to, except for a couple weeks out of the year. So, we have been taking them up on their offer. We prefer to travel the back roads and often by four-wheel drive. This trailer would not make it into a lot of the places we go, but most people are amazed at some of the places we do take it. Canyon Creek Campground was one of those places. Most of the people we talked to were complaining about the road and couldn't believe we made it in with a tent trailer. To us, it was just another dirt road! We will eventually invest in our own RV and the first one we get will be an off-road tent trailer.

Canyon Creek Campground is quite the camping spot! First of all, there is no fee to camp at this beautiful, uncrowded campground located along Canyon Creek. The campsites are spacious and most of them are equipped with bear boxes for storing your food. There are also picnic tables, fire rings and clean pit toilets. Now, that's what I call getting a lot for your money!

Sierra County Day Trip – Sierraville, CA

by Sherri on September 28, 2007

sierraville.jpg Photo - Downtown Sierraville, Sierra County, CA This was our final destination for the day. We met our friends Leslie and Mark Alire at their new bar, Sid's Place, the building in the right of this photo. We were unable to make their grand opening party the night before, so we ventured up to this tiny Gold Country town to visit them the next day after our hike. I guess we missed a great bash, but this way we were able to spend more quality time with them. If you are looking for new experiences, stop in at Sid's Place in Sierraville, CA for a cold beer, or a glass of wine and try your luck at a game of pool.  sierraville2.jpg Photo - Another shot of downtown Sierraville, Sierra County, CA There are also a few eateries in town. I haven't personally tried any of them, but I hear the Mexican Restaurant is a good pick. If anyone out there can give me feedback on other good places to eat in Sierraville, please leave a comment on this blog and I will add it to my photo essay. You do not have to register or login to leave a comment. sierraville3.jpg Photo - A rural scene in Sierraville, Sierra County, CA One of the things that is so attractive about Sierraville is it's location. I love wide open spaces and this town certainly fits that description. It is situated  in the middle of a vast valley, mostly consisting of ranchland and surrounded by mountains and National Forest. Another great thing about Sierraville's location is it's close proximity to many great recreational opportunies. Fishing, canoeing, kayaking, camping, hiking, mountain biking, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing to name just a few can be enjoyed nearby. And if you enjoy a good soak in a hot spring, check out Sierra Hot Springs, which is just a few minutes away also. For more information about Sierra County, one of California's least populated counties, visit the Sierra County Chamber of Commerce.
jc-sagehen.jpg Photo - Jeff and Cocoa hiking the Aspen lined Sagehen Creek Trail, near Truckee, CA We didn't quite make it to the end of the trail. We spent too much time photographing in this one beautiful meadow and we had plans to meet our friends later on in Sierraville. A couple of hikers that passed by, highly recommended that we keep going, as the Salmon were spawning near where Sagehen Creek and Stampede Reservoir meet. That was only about another half-mile further. I guess we will have to return, as we were also a couple weeks early for peak fall colors! jc-sagehen3.jpg Photo - Jeff and Cocoa at Sagehen Creek, Sagehen Creek Trail, near Truckee, CA Cocoa gets one more chance to catch a fish on our return hike. One of her favorite things to do when we are near water is to fish. If we are staying in one place for several hours, she will spend most of the time along the shoreline fishing for minnows. She is so easily entertained! Visit our Website for links to photo galleries.

That didn't "pan out." So, it was my turn to be the model for these shots. The Sagehen Creek Trail is a perfect running trail, as well as a hiking trail. It follows Sagehen Creek, winds through Aspen groves and pines and eventually ends up at Stampede Reservoir. And best of all, it is a "dog friendly" trail!

kris-and-dogs3.jpg Photo - Kris and her kids on the Sagehen Creek Trail, near Truckee, CA I love the way they all line up by color! I've always heard dogs were color blind, but now I'm not so sure. Maybe they lined up by breed rather than by color.
