Joshua Trees

Joshua Trees in Jawbone Canyon, California.

Joshua Trees (Yucca Brevifolia, as they are scientifically known) are really fun to photograph, I discovered on our recent trip to Southern California. They are a American plant, found only in the Southwestern United States. Jeff & I were exploring Jawbone Canyon and came upon this cluster of Joshua Trees backlit and nearly silhouetted, by the sun hitting the mountain behind them. I wanted to show a little more detail in the trees, which I did easily in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, by adding a little fill light. In case you missed this, here is another photo of Joshua Trees I posted a few days ago. You might also like to see our brand new "Bakersfield & Beyond" Gallery. Have a great weekend and be sure to come back to see more photos from our trip. ~Sherri

Off-Road Adventures in Jawbone Canyon

by Sherri on November 30, 2010

Quad riding in Jawbone Canyon, California.

Quad riding doesn't get much better than this! We spent one extra day during our recent visit to Bakersfield for Thanksgiving. We wanted to do some exploring and photographing outside of town. Before leaving home, we researched the Internet and studied maps looking for mutually beneficial places to go. One of the places we checked out was "Jawbone Canyon." This place is amazing. It's beautiful for photography and it offers miles and miles and miles and miles and more miles of riding, for the off-road enthusiast! I felt sorry for Jeff. He wanted to ride so bad, but we didn't have his quad with us. NOTE: Please don't tell him this, but I could ALMOST get into riding quads at this place! As always, thank you for visiting and your comments and questions are welcomed and appreciated! ~Sherri

Happy Thanksgiving!

Joshua Tree, near Red Rock Canyon State Park, California.

Happy Thanksgiving from Bakersfield, California!

We are spending an extra day down here in Bakersfield this year. There are so many things to see and photograph beyond Bakersfield, but we never have enough time to see them!

Yesterday, we drove to Red Rock Canyon State Park. We didn't have much time there, however, as we got sidetracked at Jawbone Canyon. Both places are really cool and we will definitely return to both of them in the future. The photo above is one of the images I captured during our scouting trip.

Thank you for stopping by and have a great Thanksgiving!

“Transition”

by Sherri on November 20, 2010

This image was captured last year in my rural Auburn, CA neighborhood.

Yesterday, I posted this image on my Facebook Business Fan Page, but under a different name; not a name as good as "Transition!" That name was inspired by a comment one of my Fans made about this image. Thank you, Bob! We have a great chance of getting snow this weekend, where we live in Auburn at the 1,600 foot level. You can bet, I will be out hunting for good things to capture in the snow if it does. We typically get a low snow in Auburn 1-3 times per year and it is a BIG deal to most of us! We all ready for it. We have plenty of firewood for the wood stove, homemade soup, beer, love, great music and more! I hope to have some images from the much talked about storm to share with you next week. Stay tuned! Cheers, ~Sherri

Family enjoying the panorama at Panorama Park, Bakersfield, California.

Here is another Bakersfield (BAKO as the locals call it) image I am working on. Look for it in our new Bakersfield, California gallery coming later this week. 🙂 This is not an actual gallery that you can visit in Bakersfield. It will be added to our collection of galleries on our Photography Website. Thanks for visiting! ~Sherri

Kern River: Bakersfield, California

by Sherri on November 12, 2010

Photo: The Kern River near Hart Memorial Park, Bakersfield, California.

This is one of the images that will be included in our new Bakersfield Gallery coming very soon! I am on a mission to capture images of Beautiful Bakersfield to prove a point; that beauty and great subjects can be found anywhere! So many people refer to Bakersfield as ugly, boring, hot, dry and stinky. If you hear anything positive, it is usually from someone who lives there. Stay tuned, as I share with you "Bakersfield Through My Eyes." Thanks for visiting and be sure to check back soon! ~Sherri

The Foresthill Bridge (California's tallest bridge) stretches over the beautiful North Fork of the American River, Auburn, CA.

Auburn is awesome, especially in Autumn! Join me this coming Sunday for an all day photo shoot down into the American River Canyon and in Old Town Auburn. See why Auburn is becoming more of a tourist destination and less of a place to just stop on the way to Lake Tahoe and Reno. I love to share my town any chance I get and that is one reason why I am offering my American River/Old Town Auburn Photo Tour & Workshop. Here are a few tidbits about Auburn:
  1. We have the oldest volunteer fire department in the West.
  2. We also have the tallest bridge in California.
  3. Parts of Phenomenon and XXX (among others) were filmed here.
  4. We are the "Endurance Capital of the World."
  5. And much more...
I am offering this Photo Tour & Workshop at a sweet 2 for 1 price. For just $125.00, you and a friend (spouse, relative etc.) can enjoy a whole day with me (includes lunch), honing your photography skills and learning more about what makes Auburn so awesome! Hurry and book before it's too late. The deadline is this Wednesday! See more images of Auburn. Thanks for visiting! ~Sherri

Sierra Buttes 2

Sierra Buttes, Northern California.

This is a closer up view of the magical Sierra Buttes mountain range in Sierra County. It was captured from Upper Sardine Lake, which is where I captured this photo of the Sierra Buttes. Enjoy your weekend everyone! ~Sherri

Lake Almanor Abstract

by Sherri on November 2, 2010

Lake Almanor Abstract

This was taken at one of the boat launch areas at Lake Almanor, Plumas County, CA.

Abstract photos are really fun to create. When I captured this one, I was down at the boat launch at Lake Almanor during sunset, for a sailing photo shoot. I glanced down at the water and the sunlight was striking this beautiful underwater pattern. I couldn't resist capturing it. If you haven't created abstracts before, give it a shot. Look close at your subjects and you can usually find an abstract! Take a look at a tree trunk, the ground, the sky, even someones clothing up close can render a nice abstract. Have a nice example you would like to share? Feel free to post a link to it in the comments section below. Have fun! ~Sherri
