Biking the Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail

biking-arp.jpg Biking the Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail, American River Parkway, Sacramento, California I have lived less than an hour away from Sacramento for 22 years, but I had never checked out the Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail in all those years, until recently. I'm somewhat of a mountain girl and only go to the big city for trips to REI and Trader Joe's, for the most part. I also shoot mountain biking, so this photo assignment was quite a contrast to what I normally shoot. The Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail is 32-miles long and runs from Folsom to Old Sacramento, paralleling the American River. It's not only well-suited for biking, but also for running, in-line skating and walking. Dogs on a leash are welcome too! Another great thing about this trail is that you can bike the whole trail, or you can ride sections of it. You can also do a shuttle, by parking one car in Old Sacramento and another in Folsom and pedaling the whole 32-miles. If you choose to do the whole ride ending in Old Sacramento, there are tons of things to do and see there. Even though I'm most comfortable in the mountains, I am adding biking the Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail to my list of things to do in the Sacramento area. Note: If anyone reading this post has biked this trail before, I'd love to hear about your experiences, by leaving a comment.

That is interesting Sherri. I didn’t know there was an official trail along the American River. I photographed the fish hatchery in Rancho Cordova in October and I’m guessing the trail probably ran thru there too.

Thanks Richard. I’ve known about this trail for many years and Jeff has been wanting to go there for a long time. It’s no wonder it got voted the #1 bike path in 2006 by http://www.trails.com.

Yes, you were at one of the access areas, when photographing the Nimbus fish hatchery.

Thanks Sherri, I guess I’ll have to add the trail into my keywording then.
