My Old Town Auburn/American River Photo Tour & Workshop this past Sunday was a blast! I got to spend several hours with two really neat women Martha & Diane, now known as the "Nikon Girls!"
We began our Tour in Old Town and our first stop was the iconic Auburn Courthouse. We photographed it from various angles, using a variety of lenses. For this photo, I added a Polarizer to further enhance the already brilliant blue sky; also to bring out the color of the exterior walls. Diane wanted to learn how to use her Polarizer, so this was the perfect opportunity.
The Auburn Courthouse is always a pleasure to photograph. See more Previous post: Winner’s Choice – “Peaceful Waters”

Looks like a fun and interesting workshop. Glad you are doing this kind of thing in Northern California. I grew up in Plumas County with my father pioneer landscape photographer Philip Hyde who was a student of Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, Minor White, Imogen Cunningham and Dorothea Lange as well as a teaching associate of Ansel Adams. My father helped bring color to landscape photography through the groundbreaking Sierra Club Exhibit Format Series that popularized the coffee table photography book. Dad used to teach for the Truckee Workshops and several others in the Lake Tahoe and Sacramento region, as well as many others all over California, Utah and the West. If you can believe it, he never thought he had anything much to teach students before he started doing it, but found teaching rewarding as the students responded well. Doing workshops can be a great experience for teacher and student. I can see that you have a fascinating and enjoyable program put together. I will have to come sometime myself. Best wishes to you.
Hi David,
Thank you for stopping by and sharing your fascinating story; also for your feedback regarding my workshops!
Have a great weekend!
