Jeff mountain biking with Sierra, in Auburn, California
A few days ago, I wrote a post Just for Fun, but didn't reveal how the image was created until now.
We have a print of the photo above hanging on our living room wall. Just for fun, I wanted to see what would happen if I took a photo of the photo. I tried zooming this photo and this is what I ended up with.Â
I really like the unique results. But, this photo clearly is the better of the two, in my opinion.
Photo #1 - Original color photo of an old car, Auburn, California
Jeff and I were out for a walk in our neighborhood recently and this really cool old car drove by. Fortunately, I brought along my digital camera that day. I was able to grab this pan shot, as the guy proudly drove by.
While looking through my images today, I came across this color photograph and decided it would look great in black and white (see photo #2).
One of the great things about shooting in digital is that you can easily turn any photo from color to black and white.Â

Photo #2 - adjusted the saturation in PhotoShop
I don't think I have shot in black and white since I was studying with the New York Institute of Photography, many years ago. I prefer shooting in color by a long shot. But, shooting digital and using PhotoShop, you can have the best of both worlds!
Abstract shot of Jeff mountain biking in rural Auburn, California
Every now and then, I like to try something just for the fun of it. That was the case when I shot this photo. I'm not going to reveal how it was created. Instead, I would like to see if anyone can figure out how it was created.
Any guesses?
Peg Challender kayaking on Lake Clementine, Auburn, California
Peg and I had a great day of kayaking and photographing at Lake Clementine. This photo was shot on the way back to the car.
The light was going fast. We had to hustle to get back to the parking lot before sundown, or we would risk getting locked in for the night. [click to continue…]

In the post Pardon Our Dust I wrote a few days ago, I mentioned that we were in the midst of a huge project involving our Webite. At first glance, our Website looks the same as it did. But, if you go to our galleries, you will notice that our images are now on our own server, not PhotoShelter's.
Had we known how time and labor intensive this project would be, we may have taken another route. But, now, we are nearly done and we are very happy with the results. We still have some massaging to do, before we can safely say we're done. But, we should have that completed in a few more days.
We are looking forward to a little kayaking and hiking really soon!
California Poppies and Purple Lupine, Hidden Falls Regional Park, Auburn, California
I love the contrast between the orange Poppies and the purple Lupine so much, I am posting another version of the photo I posted yesterday.
Windy Point Trail 2008 wildflower update
A few weeks ago, I wrote a post about the Windy Point Trail. Jeff and I have not been there yet this year. But, a couple of our friends were there a couple of weeks ago and reported that the California Poppies, Lupine and Goldfields were putting on a great show.Â
I'm not sure how much longer they will last, but most likely for a couple more weeks or so. If you can't make it up there this year, be sure to put it on your list for next year!Â
California Poppies and Purple Lupine, Hidden Falls Regional Park, Auburn, California
The hillside near the Hidden Falls Regional Park parking lot is covered with these colorful California Poppies and Purple Lupine.
If you are short on time, or disabled and unable to take a wildflower hike here, you can still get an eyefull of color without getting out of your car.
Please refer to my last post for more information about the park.
Enjoy!Â
Wild Sierra Iris growing along the Poppy Loop Trail at Hidden Falls Regional Park, in the Sierra Nevada Foothills, Auburn, California
One year ago this past Thursday, Jeff and I spent our 25th anniversary adventuring in Cabo San Lucas. This year we spent it adventuring in our own neck-of-the-woods. Although it wasn't near as wild as our week in Cabo, it was wild of a different nature.
It was wild as in "wildflowers."

Pan shot of a woman mountain biking the Stagecoach Trail, ASRA, Auburn, CA
The Stagecoach Trail is the #1 trail of the Clementine Loop Trail. It starts at Russell Road (off of Lincoln Way) in Auburn and ends about 2-miles later at the North Fork of the American River. If you plan to continue on here to trail # 2, cross over the Old Foresthill Road Bridge and hook up with the Clementine Trail on the left.
This trail is considered a beginner/intermediate trail. It's an old fire road, so it's very wide all the way down to the river, which is the easy part. But, it's downhill all the way. Which means, for those that want to turn around here and return to Russell Road, it's all uphill and that bumps this trail up to intermediate.
Note: All the trails that make up the Clementine Loop Trail are great for hiking and running too. They are also "dog friendly" for leashed dogs.
You can view more of our mountain biking stock photos in our Biking Gallery.
Mountain biking the Clementine Trail, ASRA, Auburn, CA
Look close. There are actually 2 mountain bikers in the middle of this photo. I was hiking on the other side of the river when I shot this. I decided to travel light that day and left my long zoom lens behind. Unfortunately!Â
