The American River is not literally my backyard, but it’s only minutes away. Within 15-20 minutes, I can be in a number of photographic hot spots this good, or better!

When Jeff, Kim and I dropped down into the American River Canyon via historic highway 49 on Monday, we were shocked and disappointed at the amount of people out and about.

Middle Fork of the American River, Auburn, CA
This photo was taken on the same day the waterfall photo was taken. We were hiking on the right side of the river on the Western States Trail in El Dorado County. Had we been hiking on the other side of the river, we would have been hiking in Placer County.Â
I just realized that I started this Blog one year ago today! I have also noticed over the course of the year, that a lot of people read my first blog entry. I did the same thing, when I was doing my research, before starting my Blog. And I bet a lot of you out there that have Blogs did too!
This first post was also one of my favorites of the year, so I thought it would be fun to repost it today.

lt all depends on who you are. A friend and former resident of Auburn doesn’t think so. He like so many others stop here on their way to Reno or Lake Tahoe.Â

After examining our snowshoes yesterday, we discovered they were badly in need of repair. So, our day of snowshoeing turned into a day of hiking instead.
