American River Rock Art, otherwise known as “Cairn,” Confluence of the American River, Auburn, California.
This image of the stack of rocks was taken on Monday, during our “Dine & Dip” down at the American River.
To escape from the heat after several days in a row of triple digit temps, we decided to take our dinner to the river. Following dinner was a very refreshing and welcomed dip in the crystal clear North Fork of the American River. I think this could become a weekly habit! [click to continue…]

Kayaking Lake Clementine, Auburn, California.
Back by popular demand is another round-up of favorite Lightroom tweets. Once again, I have way too many to include in this post. That means, I will be doing the same thing again next week.
Thank you to all of you who either commented on last week’s blog post, started following me on Twitter, retweeted me, or included me in a post. A HUGE thanks to @MattKloskowski for featuring me on worth-a-click on the Adobe Lightroom Killer Tips Website. [click to continue…]

Woman running with her dogs across the famous “No Hands Bridge” in Auburn, California.
I chose to feature this photo in my “Wednesday’s WOW” post for a couple of reasons.
First of all, I really like it and secondly the annual Western States 100 Endurance Run is coming up June 27-28. If you have never heard of this race, it is a 100-mile foot race which starts in Squaw Valley, California and winds up in Auburn, California 100-miles later. The participants of this race will cross No Hands Bridge minutes before reaching the finish line at Placer High School. NOTE: This bridge is in both El Dorado and Placer counties. American River Rocks, near Weimar, California.
This is a close up photo of the large rock Peg was sitting on in this photo. These little rocks were arranged just like this, when I stumbled upon them.
Holes like these are created by the water washing over the large rock into a small hole. When a little rock gets caught inside the small hole, it tumbles for a long time, making the hole bigger. Eventually, more rocks make their way into the hole as they did here.
I could have missed this photo opportunity, if I hadn’t paid attention to the smaller details in my “big picture.”

Peg spotted a rock with a built-in seat.
Jeff and I went on a great hike/photo shoot with our friend Peg on Memorial Day Weekend. We were planning to hike the “Codfish Falls Trail” near Weimar. But, when we got down to the river, it was way too crowded for our liking. So, we crossed the bridge and hiked the trail on the other side of the river. Jeff and I had never hiked on this trail before. It was awesome! [click to continue…]

Whitewater rafting on the South Fork of the American River, near Coloma, California.
Thanks to my friend and fellow photographer, Richard Wong, I have done something I thought I’d never do. I jumped on the Twitter bandwagon! For months, I would read his little Twitter message on his Photo Blog and found it quite amusing at times. But, I really didn’t understand anything about it. So, what did I do to satisfy my curiosity? I did like millions of other curious folks are doing and I signed up for my “free” Twitter account. Once I signed up, it was easy to read all of his posts and it cleared up things a bit. But, I still didn’t really get the hang of it, so I put it on the back burner for a few more months. Early season rafters, paddling a smooth section of the South Fork of the American River, near Coloma, California.
This photo was taken during my photo shoot this past Sunday, at the Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park.
One of the great things about living in Auburn is it’s location. We are located in the heart of the California Gold Country and in the midst of one of the best recreational playgrounds in the country. Within minutes, we can be hiking, skiing, mountain biking, whitewater rafting, kayaking, canoeing, trail running, gold panning, fishing to name just a few. [click to continue…]

Foresthill Bridge in the snow, Auburn, California.
After photographing the American River from the Foresthill Bridge, I walked around near the parking area to get a photo of the bridge itself.
This bridge stands over 700 feet tall, is the tallest bridge in California and the third tallest bridge in the country.
As many times as I have driven over it, walked under it and viewed it from many different perspectives, I had never seen it in the snow and had never walked across it until February 13, 2009!

North Fork of the American River, taken from the Foresthill Bridge, Auburn, California.
This shot of the North Fork of the American River takes in more of the surrounding area, than the photo I posted last week. I also wanted to include the snow in this one. After all, that was the main reason I went on my photo adventure the day this was taken.
