Back Home in Auburn

Blue Lake Shoreline, Modoc National Forest, California

Some of you have been reading our Photo Blog during the last couple of weeks, during our Northeastern California Road Trip.

We are now back home in Auburn. Last night, we completed a 1150-mile loop, covering some of the most beautiful and less traveled to areas of Northern California.

We had a great trip, but as always, it’s good to be home! We returned with lots of photos and now the fun (I mean the not-so-glamorous work) begins. Our images will get organized into folders, edited, keyworded, captioned and the list goes on.

Over the next few weeks, we will also be posting many more photos from our road trip. So, please be sure to check back often to see what’s new.

Northeastern California Road Trip Update

McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park, Shasta County, California.

Greetings from the road everyone,

We apologize for the long gaps between posts, but Blogging from the road has been very challenging. We have set up camp in 3 different locations since leaving home, all without power. To download our images to our laptop, we are using a power inverter that converts battery power to AC power. For checking our e-mail and posting to our Photo Blog, we have to drive to the nearest town, which has been as far away as 35-miles (today in Alturas). Boy, have we learned a lot on this trip! Indian Creek, Taylorsville, California

by Sherri on August 12, 2008

Indian Creek, Taylorsville, California

Our first 3 nights were spent in Taylorsville, a little “Po Dunk” town in Plumas County, southeast of Lake Almanor.

We camped on 10 acres of private property with our friends, along beautiful Indian Creek. The photo above was taken right next to our campsite.

While we were there, we did a day trip to Lasen National Park. Now, we have moved on to McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park.

We hope to write again in a few days, but we have found out that Blogging while on the road is harder than we thought.

Adios,

Jeff & Sherri (Cocoa too!)

Our Travel Plans

by Sherri on August 7, 2008

Horse in rural Auburn, California, shot with Nikon D-300 and Tokina super wide-angle lens.

The photo of this horse doesn’t really have anything to do with our travel plans, but I needed to “test drive” my new equiptment, before leaving on our 15-day road trip, which begins tomorrow.

Our travel/photo plans (subject to flexibility) are as follows:

Counties:

California – Sierra, Plumas, Lassen, Modoc, El Dorado

Nevada – Washoe, Douglas

Subjects: (partial list)

State Parks, Lassen National Park, Lake Tahoe, hiking, kayaking, hot springs, scenics and much more.

We hope you will follow along with us during our travels. Since much of our trip will be off-the-beaten-path, we won’t always have Internet access (Wifi). So we are not sure how often we will be able to post on our Photo Blog. We are hoping to keep you updated as to where we are and what we are doing every 2-3 days.

Cheers,

Jeff & Sherri

“Gearing Up” for Upcoming Road Trip

by Sherri on August 1, 2008

Our living room shot with my new Tokina 12-24mm super wide-angle lens.

Wow! Our living room never looked so big! This was the first photo taken with my new super wide- angle lens. So far so good!

Jeff and I will be leaving soon on a “Road Trip,” exploring and photographing new territory in Northeastern California and the Lake Tahoe Region.

I would have eventually purchased this lens along with my new Nikon D-300, but just before a trip like this seemed like the time to take the plunge. I have been experimenting with this lens and I’m loving it, but I haven’t really tried out the camera yet. That is on the agenda for this weekend.

After comparison shopping on the Internet, I found the best deals through B&H Photo in New York.  Not only were their prices lower than anywhere else, their service was impeccable.

I will be writing more about our upcoming trip in a future post, as well as posting a photo or two taken on the D-300.

Duck Island

Lone duck at Ashford Park, Auburn, California

Every time Jeff, Cocoa (our dog) and I go to the Ashley Memorial Dog Park, we can’t help but notice the lone resident duck, at nearby Ashford Park.

When he is not being fed by visitors of the park, you can usually find him on his own private island.

Ashford Park, Auburn, California

Jeff & Cocoa, Ashford Park, Auburn, California

Ashford Park is located in front of the Ashley Memorial Dog Park, on Auburn Ravine Road. It has a nice lawn area, picnic tables, BBQ’s, playground, seasonal creek, pond, one lone duck and an area you can rent for parties, for a very nominal fee.

After we spend an hour or so at the dog park, we like to visit this spot. During the late afternoon, the light here is what photographer’s refer to as “golden light,” or “sweet light.”

It’s the perfect time to capture a few “lifestyle” images of Jeff and Cocoa that will be added to our Lifestyles Stock Photo Gallery.

Doggone good times at Ashley Memorial Dog Park, Auburn, California

If you haven’t heard by now, there is a new dog park in town. Finally!

This park has only been open a few weeks and already there are dozens of regular visitors. Some folks and their canine companions visit there nearly every day. [click to continue…]

Lower North Fork of the American River, Auburn, California, as seen from our hike on the Western States Trail.

This photo of the American River was taken during our recent location scouting trip down in the American River Confluence area. Jeff and I had gone down there to see if anyone was rafting or kayaking the recently opened “Auburn Run.” [click to continue…]
