More Lightroom Fun!

Portrait of Maya Bussinger #1, Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park, Pilot Hill, California.

You can probably tell by now that I love Adobe Lightroom 2.1. I’ve been doing a lot of experimenting with it lately and here is something else I learned that might be of interest to you.

The photo above was created from the original photo (photo #2), by simply adjusting the “clarity” in the development module of Lightroom 2.1. The original photo was a little bit harsh. By adjusting the “clarity” to -100, I gave this portrait of Maya a much softer look.

This is the original photo. Which one do you like best?

Lightroom Fun!

Love Comes Softly movie set at the Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park, Pilot Hill, California.

To get this look, I used the Antique Grayscale preset in Lightroom 2.1. Although I liked the scene in color, I wanted to see what it would look like using this amazing preset. This is the same preset I used on this photo of the “Three Amigos.”

Maile’s First Solo Flight

by Sherri on January 25, 2009

Maile Brossa taking her first solo paragliding flight, Cronan Ranch Regional Trails park, Pilot Hill, California.

Recently, I wrote about a gal paragliding over the Sierra Foothill’s. Thanks to Philip Green for stumbling across my previous post and for contacting me to let me know who she was.

This is Maile Brossa. She was here visiting from Paris, France. This was her first solo flight and I just happened to catch it on film!

She was here with her instructors, the Acrotwins, who are acro paraglider pilots. They are ranked #1 in the USA and 7th in the worlds top acro pilots.

The traffic on this Blog has been crazy all week because of that post. Fortunatley, I took a few photos that day and the photo above is another one of my favorites of Maile’s first solo flight.

Back to the Ranch

Group of women horseback riding at the Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park, Pilot Hill, California.

Wow, I didn’t realize there was more than 1 all female group out for a trail ride that day.

If I remember correctly, this group does this every year on New Year’s Day. Sounds good to me. Anyone have an extra horse for next year?

Healthy Lifestyles Stock Photo

Donna Bussinger hiking at the Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park, Pilot Hill, California.

This is another one of my favorite shots taken the day of our hike. I love the simple, uncluttered composition. It also tells a story. You can tell that Donna is having a good time and she is active and healthy. She is also a Baby Boomer.

I took this photo because it will work well as a photo illustration in many different health related publications, as well as in advertisements.

Paragliding Over the Sierra Foothill’s

by Sherri on January 16, 2009

Woman paragliding over the Cronan Ranch, Pilot Hill, California.

There were horseback riders; lot’s of them. There were mountain bikers. There were hikers. Then, there were the paragliders.

Come to find out the Cronan Ranch is quite the popular spot for paragliding. There were several paragliders leaping off of the ridge the day of our hike. I think the most interesting thing about it was watching the horses watch the paragliders.

The woman in this photo was having the best ride while we were there. She was also the most colorful and photogenic.

I don’t know who she was, but I hope she or someone she knows stumbles across this photo of her someday!

Update: I was just contacted by Philip Green, who knows who this woman is. Her name is Maile Brossa. She was here visiting from Paris France with her instructors the Acrotwins, who just happen to be the #1 acro paraglider pilots in the USA. To top that off, this was also Maile’s first solo flight!

Portrait of Maya

Portrait of Maya Bussinger, Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park, Pilot Hill, California.

It’s been a really long time since my niece and nephew were young like this. I used to photograph them a lot.

Thanks to our “Baby Boomer” friends Donna and Daniel for having Maya. I am really enjoying photographing her. She is very photogenic just like her Mom Donna, who has been one of my top models for a long time.

I took several photos of her in this same location, but this one really captured my attention.

More photos taken at the Cronan Ranch to come…

Movie Location at the Cronan Ranch

by Sherri on January 12, 2009

Movie location at the Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park, Pilot Hill, California.

I have a few more photos to share over the next few days, that were taken during our recent hike at the Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park.

This photo shows the whole movie set where “Love Comes Softly” was filmed. It reminds me of the television series “Little House on the Prairie!” That was one of my favorite shows when I was growing up.

Ride Em’ Cowgirls!

by Sherri on January 10, 2009

Group of women having fun riding their horses, Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park, Pilot Hill, California.

While I was photographing Donna & Maya at the cabin, this group of women on horseback came loping towards us. It actually felt like the makings of another movie!

It was great fun photographing these women. They just happened to be 1 group out of many this size or larger, that were riding at the Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park on New Year’s Day.

I have to admit, there were several times during this hike that I wished I had a horse again! Having owned a horse for 16 years was one of the best experiences in my life. But, for now, I just enjoy being around them!

If anyone knows these women, please send me an email. Thank you!

Snow Update for China Wall

by Sherri on January 8, 2009

Sherri X-CÂ Skiing with Cocoa at China Wall OHV Staging Area, Foresthill, California.

My series on the Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park will continue soon, after I give a snow update on China Wall.

One of the most popular searches on this Photo Blog currently is for the snow conditions at China Wall. Since Jeff and I took the day off on Tuesday to cross country ski there, I thought I would give a snow update for those of you looking for information on this location. I am pleased to report that there was about 3 feet of good snow.

China Wall is one of our favorite spots to ski and snowshoe. It is close to where we live in Auburn. We can take our dog, Cocoa. There is no fee. There are no crowds. And there is no traffic getting there, compared to traveling up highway 80. What more can you ask for?

NOTE: There are usually a few very courteous snowmobilers up there. But, if you want to avoid them, the best time to go is mid-week. There is also plenty of area for you to ski on, where they don’t go.

For more information on China Wall, please refer to my other posts under the Foresthill Category.
