Off-Road Adventures at Prairie City

by Sherri on July 13, 2011

Rich Winters performing a jump at Prairie City OHV Park, Folsom, California.

This past Sunday, Jeff & I did a scouting trip to Prairie City OHV Park, in preparation for my upcoming "Action Shooting Photo Workshops." We met with a few models/friends who were more than happy to test the tracks and trails for me. Of course, Jeff was a model too! This is a fantastic place to hone your action shooting skills. The two tracks we shot at were loops. That gave me many chances to capture photos of Jeff, Rich and 9 year old Belle. Although I have been shooting action for over 15 years, this is a new sport for me! You can see more photos from this photo shoot/scouting trip on my Facebook Photography Page. I will be setting some dates soon for my upcoming Workshops, which will include the details to. Thanks for visiting & be sure to check back soon! ~Sherri Sherri Meyer Photography

Auburn Photo Tour & Workshop

by Sherri on June 28, 2011

My Photo Tour/Workshop participants capturing images of the very beautiful & historical Auburn Courthouse, Auburn, CA.

My Old Town Auburn/American River Photo Tour & Workshop this past Sunday was a blast! I got to spend several hours with two really neat women Martha & Diane, now known as the "Nikon Girls!" We began our Tour in Old Town and our first stop was the iconic Auburn Courthouse. We photographed it from various angles, using a variety of lenses. For this photo, I added a Polarizer to further enhance the already brilliant blue sky; also to bring out the color of the exterior walls. Diane wanted to learn how to use her Polarizer, so this was the  perfect opportunity. The Auburn Courthouse is always a pleasure to photograph. See more photos of the Historic Auburn Courthouse. You can see more photos from this fun day on my Facebook Photography Page. Woman mountain biking on the Stagecoach Trail in Auburn, California the "Endurance Capital of the World."

If you are into shooting action as I am, Auburn is a great place to do it. They don't call us the "Endurance Capital of the World" for nothing. People travel from all over the world to participate in several annual events held here each year, as we have some of the best multi-use trails in the country. Auburn is no longer just a stopping off point in route to Lake Tahoe and Reno. It is becoming a travel destination in it's own right! I was on the hunt for mountain bikers the day I shot this photo, while hiking on the Stagecoach Trail. As a local, I know where the hot spots are for action. I was standing on top of a picnic table near the trails edge, ready for my first victim to come flying down the hill. I don't think she ever saw me, she was going so fast! Because I was so close to the trail, I had to use my 28-7o mm zoom lens; not the 80-200 mm zoom lens I normally use for panning photographs. Back then, I was shooting with the Nikon D70, so the lowest ISO I could use was 200. My shutter speed was set at 1/30 sec. and my aperture was f 16. Panning is one of the techniques I use a lot when shooting action. If you would like to learn how to shoot action and adventure, I will be leading a Action & Adventure Photo Workshop nearby on May 1st. I'd love to have you join me. For information and to register, please click on the previous link. SPECIAL - You can also organize your own group of 5-8 and one person gets to attend for FREE! Comments or questions are always welcome! Cheers, Sherri

“Blue Ice”

by Sherri on February 28, 2011

A patch of ice, along the road in our neighborhood.

Abstracts can be made anywhere. This one was created the day after we had a low snowfall here in Auburn, California. It was 30 degrees outside. I knew there would be icy patches along the road during my morning walk, if I got out early enough. I really didn't want to brave the cold, but I knew it would pay off if I did! I welcome your questions or comments any old time. Cheers, Sherri Sherri Meyer Photography
