Taylorsville Barn Makeover

by Sherri on March 21, 2012

Old Barn in Taylorsville, California after the makeover.

As I was looking for something to add to my Northeastern California Album this morning, I came across this photo of a barn I shot in Podunk Taylorsville, California. It was taken at noonish...the worst time of the day for photography in most cases. It had power lines in it, an ugly sky and was very close to getting tossed. Something told me to see if I could make a "keeper" out of it. I made a virtual copy of the original file in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, converted it from color to antique and removed the power lines. From there, I took it into Photoshop CS3 and added the filter "poster edges." The difference is amazing...it went from an "Ugly Duckling" into something that inspires me.

Back Home in Auburn

by Sherri on August 20, 2008

Blue Lake Shoreline, Modoc National Forest, California Some of you have been reading our Photo Blog during the last couple of weeks, during our Northeastern California Road Trip. We are now back home in Auburn. Last night, we completed a 1150-mile loop, covering some of the most beautiful and less traveled to areas of Northern California. We had a great trip, but as always, it's good to be home! We returned with lots of photos and now the fun (I mean the not-so-glamorous work) begins. Our images will get organized into folders, edited, keyworded, captioned and the list goes on. Over the next few weeks, we will also be posting many more photos from our road trip. So, please be sure to check back often to see what's new.

“Gearing Up” for Upcoming Road Trip

by Sherri on August 1, 2008

Our living room shot with my new Tokina 12-24mm super wide-angle lens. Wow! Our living room never looked so big! This was the first photo taken with my new super wide- angle lens. So far so good! Jeff and I will be leaving soon on a "Road Trip," exploring and photographing new territory in Northeastern California and the Lake Tahoe Region. I would have eventually purchased this lens along with my new Nikon D-300, but just before a trip like this seemed like the time to take the plunge. I have been experimenting with this lens and I'm loving it, but I haven't really tried out the camera yet. That is on the agenda for this weekend. After comparison shopping on the Internet, I found the best deals through B&H Photo in New York.  Not only were their prices lower than anywhere else, their service was impeccable. I will be writing more about our upcoming trip in a future post, as well as posting a photo or two taken on the D-300. Â
