S&C-snow

Sherri & Cocoa running in 8" of snow in our front yard, during the "BIG Sierra Snowstorm" last week. This image was processed using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2.

It's hard to believe, that 1 week ago today our front yard looked like this. What a fun day it was and one that will never be forgotten. This is only the 2nd time in 22 years we have had this much snow! Although I wouldn't want to live where we would have to dig our way out, I would like to experience a snowstorm like this 2-3 times per year! More photos of this epic storm to come...

The BIG Sierra Snowstorm

by Sherri on December 10, 2009

Snowy-Landscape

This snowy landscape image was taken in the field below our cabin (Auburn, California), during this weeks "Big Sierra Snowstorm." It was developed using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2.

WOW! In what seemed like a split second, we went from Fall to Winter here in the Sierra Foothill's! A major storm blew through here on Monday and it was (and still is) a winter wonderland! The big storm dumped about 8" of fluffy white stuff here at our cabin, which made for unlimited photographic opportunities. Jeff & I captured nearly 600 new images. Some of the "keepers" have been uploaded to facebook already on my personal page. Soon, I will be adding more to my Business Fan Page. I will also be adding additional images to this Photo Blog. Here is a partial list of subjects we photographed:
  1. Scenes in our rural Auburn neighborhood - barns, landscapes, cabins, unique scenes and more.
  2. Nature close ups including leaf patterns, ice cycles, red berries.
  3. Unique holiday decorations - peace signs, Santa riding on a Longhorn and more.
  4. Old Town Auburn all dressed up for Christmas.
  5. Scenes along Lincoln Way including the Chamber of Commerce, & street scenes.
  6. Adventure - 4x4, cross country skiing.
  7. The American River in the snow.
  8. Some of Auburn's Icons - Historic Auburn Courthouse, Volunteer Fire Department & Foresthill Bridge.
NOTE: If you are looking for any of these Auburn subjects that were captured during this weeks Sierra Snowstorm, let us know. We can arrange to send you a private gallery of those subjects. The images will be available for ordering as a print and for licensing. We offer commercial, editorial & personal image licensing. To learn more, please see our Ordering Information page. Foresthill-Bridge-5

The famous Foresthill Bridge, Auburn, California. It was processed using a combination of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2 and Adobe Photoshop CS3.

What: The famous Foresthill Bridge. Where: North Fork of the American River, Auburn, California. When: A couple of weeks ago. Who: Jeff, our dog Cocoa & I were taking a Fall hike. How: The Foresthill Bridge was reflecting in a mud puddle. I thought that was pretty cool. So I took a series of photos of the mud puddle. This was one of my favorites. Then, in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2, I rotated the photo so it was upside down and now you see the bridge right side up in the mud puddle. Did anyone guess how this image was captured, before I revealed the answer? Thank you for visiting. D&M-Rafting

Donna & Maya Bussinger rafting on the Middle Fork of the American River, Auburn, California.

Donna & Maya Bussinger rafting on the Middle Fork of the American River, Auburn, California. Yesterday was awesome! Jeff & I had the great opportunity to raft the Middle Fork of the American River (between Driver's Flat and Mammoth Bar), with our friend Donna and her 4-year old daughter Maya. This section of the the American River doesn't draw the hoards of tourists from the Bay Area and LA like the South Fork does. There are a few reasons why. For one thing, it is only 7-miles in length. It also consists of only Class I & II rapids. Lastly, not many know about this run, which is why we love it so much. Now, I know after writing this a few more people will know about it. But, hey, if I don't write about it someone else will. It may as well be me! [click to continue…]
auburn-courthouse Photo #1 - Historic Auburn Courthouse, Auburn, California. This beautiful building has become one of my favorite local subjects to photograph. It is so close to home, I can return and capture it's beauty each season, at different times of the day and under many different lighting situations! auburn-courthouse2 Photo # 2 - This is what the photo looked like straight out of the camera. The Makeover - (Lightroom)
  1. Added +25 fill light.
  2. Adjusted the Clarity to +100.
  3. Adjusted the Vibrance to +60.
That's all folks. I hope you enjoyed this "Monday's Makeover." Opinions are always welcome! Thank you for visiting. Wednesday’s WOW: No Hands Bridge

by Sherri on June 17, 2009

no-hands-bridge3 Woman running with her dogs across the famous "No Hands Bridge" in Auburn, California. I chose to feature this photo in my "Wednesday's WOW" post for a couple of reasons. First of all, I really like it and secondly the annual Western States 100 Endurance Run is coming up June 27-28. If you have never heard of this race, it is a 100-mile foot race which starts in Squaw Valley, California and winds up in Auburn, California 100-miles later. The participants of this race will cross No Hands Bridge minutes before reaching the finish line at Placer High School. NOTE: This bridge is in both El Dorado and Placer counties. paragliding5 Paraglider flying over the Cronan Ranch, Pilot Hill, California. This week is the week for starting new things. On Monday, I started "Monday Makeover." Today, I am starting something else new and exciting. I am going to post a photo that makes me say "WOW." But, that's not all. I'm going to tell you why I think it qualifies as a WOW photo. 5 reasons why this photo makes me say WOW! Feeling or emotion - The first thing I get when I look at this photo is a feeling. While I can't actually say I know what it feels like to take off like this guy is doing, I can feel it in the photo. Composition - I love the composition. The elements in the photo are well balanced and are very pleasing to the eye. Color - The color really pops in this photo. I did use the Nikon D300 preset for Lightroom, to add a little punch to the color. Lighting - Even though this photo was taken in April at 1:40 in the afternoon, the lighting works for me. The way the wing is illuminated by the sun really catches my eye. Timing - The fact that this was shot during take off makes it a really strong image too. These guys don't always get enough lift to get off the ground. Don't go away just yet. I am also going to recommend that you look at this WOW photo by Kathleen Connally. If you would like to suggest a particular photo to be included in an upcoming Wednesday's WOW post, please send me an email @sherri@sherrimeyer.com. NOTE: The idea for "Makeover Monday" and "WOW Wednesay" were both inspired by junk email or snail mail I have saved. I knew they would come in handy for something someday! Thank you for visiting. ponderosa-hike

Peg spotted a rock with a built-in seat.

Jeff and I went on a great hike/photo shoot with our friend Peg on Memorial Day Weekend. We were planning to hike the "Codfish Falls Trail" near Weimar. But, when we got down to the river, it was way too crowded for our liking. So, we crossed the bridge and hiked the trail on the other side of the river. Jeff and I had never hiked on this trail before. It was awesome! [click to continue…]
