I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas!
by Sherri on December 11, 2007
Der Meyer Haus, March 2006, Auburn, California.
This was what our house looked like on March 12, 2006. It was awesome!
I could hear the snow gently falling on our deck while laying in bed. I jumped out of bed and looked out the window just like a little kid. Then, I grabbed my camera, glove liners, hat, snow boots, a plastic bag (to protect my camera from the snow) and our dog, Cocoa.
It was 6:30 AM when we headed out the door to photograph. My goal was to be the first ones making tracks in the snow on the road. We didn't quite make it. There were already car tracks on the road, unfortunately! But, Cocoa and I were the first ones to make footprints in the snow! We walked around the entire neighborhood and I documented this rare occurrence the best that I could. Who knows when we will have another snowfall like this?
Here in Auburn, we usually get a couple of snowfalls per year. But, snowfalls like you see in this photo are not the norm. They occur about once every other year, if that. So, when it does happen, it's a big deal!
We usually get our snow in February or March. But, our first year in this house 20 years ago, we had a White Christmas. That was also the last time it happened.
Hopefully, we will have a White Christmas again this year. It's been way too long!
That is awesome Sherri. I am still looking forward to experiencing my first snowy Christmas. Hopefully at least once in my lifetime… This looks almost like a B&W image.
I grew up in San Jose. It never snowed there. When we wanted to see snow, we had to drive to Mount Hamilton on a long, windy road to get there. Snowfalls were even rare up there if I remember correctly.
Living in Auburn is great. It’s “above the fog and below the snow.” That is actually an official slogan used around here! But, getting snow (and fog) once in awhile is welcomed! And being within 45 minutes of ski areas is really nice too.
Yes, this image could have easily been done in B/W, but, then it wouldn’t show off the yellow glow of the light I purposely left on.
Wow, that is beautiful Sherri! You live in a setting as well, but the snow is sure a great bonus.

Thank you Ron. A snowfall at Christmas would be awesome! A snowfall anytime would be awesome! I would love to get enough someday, that we could snowshoe, or cross country ski around our our neighborhood.
Are you getting much snow yet? I know you were getting lots of rain there for awhile.
No, now it is cold and we don’t even have a dusting of snow in town. 🙁 You would think if there was one place you could count on snow, it would be Alaska!
I hope you get a white Christmas!
