California Poppies and Purple Lupine, Hidden Falls Regional Park, Auburn, California

I love the contrast between the orange Poppies and the purple Lupine so much, I am posting another version of the photo I posted yesterday.

Windy Point Trail 2008 wildflower update

A few weeks ago, I wrote a post about the Windy Point Trail. Jeff and I have not been there yet this year. But, a couple of our friends were there a couple of weeks ago and reported that the California Poppies, Lupine and Goldfields were putting on a great show.

I’m not sure how much longer they will last, but most likely for a couple more weeks or so. If you can’t make it up there this year, be sure to put it on your list for next year!

California Poppies and Purple Lupine, Hidden Falls Regional Park, Auburn, California

The hillside near the Hidden Falls Regional Park parking lot is covered with these colorful California Poppies and Purple Lupine.

If you are short on time, or disabled and unable to take a wildflower hike here, you can still get an eyefull of color without getting out of your car.

Please refer to my last post for more information about the park.

Enjoy!

Wild Sierra Iris

Wild Sierra Iris growing along the Poppy Loop Trail at Hidden Falls Regional Park, in the Sierra Nevada Foothills, Auburn, California

One year ago this past Thursday, Jeff and I spent our 25th anniversary adventuring in Cabo San Lucas. This year we spent it adventuring in our own neck-of-the-woods. Although it wasn’t near as wild as our week in Cabo, it was wild of a different nature.

It was wild as in “wildflowers.”

Utica Trail Off-Road Adventure

Heading towards Utica Reservoir, Alpine County, California

Here is another shot of our Toyota Landcruiser FJ-40, Blue Thunder, doing what it does best – tackling hard to get to places!

As I mentioned in my last post, we will be selling Blue Thunder soon. Before we do, I wanted to post a few photos of our favorite off-road adventures we have enjoyed in it.

To get this shot, I stood up in the back and clinched on to the roll bar with one white knuckled hand, while shooting with the other. What I love about this photo is that it gives the viewer, YOU, the feeling that you are actually there.

More photos of Blue Thunder and some of our favorite locations such as Utica Reservoir, Blue Lake, Gold Lake and maybe even the famous Rubion Trail to come!

Happy Trails Blue Thunder!

Blue Thunder has been a part of our family for 25 years. But, unfortunately, the time has come that we will be finding it a new home soon.

Group of kayaker’s preparing for take off, on the north fork of the American River, near Colfax and Weimar, California

This theme on paddling the north fork of the American River has been very popular, so I decided to post one more photo of it.

These guys are in an eddy, just below where the photo in my last post was taken.

Note: Please be sure to read my post, kayaking the north fork of the American River for more information on paddling the American River.

You can license, or order a print of this image in our kayaking gallery.

Kayaking the north fork of the American River at Yankee Jim’s

Spring is here in the Sierra Foothills. It’s the best time of the year to enjoy paddling on the north fork of the American River.

The north fork of the American River is one of the few rivers left, that doesn’t rely on dam releases for it’s water source. It depends soley on spring runoff. Therefore, the paddling season on this fork of the river is much shorter than both the middle and south forks.

Visit Canyon Raft Rentals for more information on paddling all three forks of the American River.

Happy Paddling!

Photo of the Day

Man and son fishing on Gold Lake, Sierra County, California.

I have been going through our collection of slides lately, many which have not been added to our on-line galleries yet. I came across this image and decided to post it as the photo of the day.

When I took this photograph, I didn’t know who the man and his son were and still don’t. Since that day, this image landed on the cover of Tom Stienstra’s California Fishing Guidebook. I figured they would eventually stumble upon it in a bookstore, or perhaps someone they know might.

It never happened.

Now, they would have to stumble upon it in a library, as there has been a couple revisions of this book since then. Or maybe they will see it on this Blog.

Here is what this photo looks like as a cover.

Blue Angels 3

Blue Angels – Capital Airshow, Mather Field, Sacramento, CA

The most exciting thing about our day in Sacramento was when we got invited to fly with the Angels.

Yes, that’s right!

Jeff and I both got to experience first hand what it’s like to fly with the Blue Angels. That has to top anything I’ve ever done!

Had you fooled didn’t I?

Happy April Fools Day!
