Sherri & Sierra canoeing on Gold Lake in Sierra County, California. This image was developed using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2.
A few days ago, I ran a little contest. The first person to leave 5 comments on this Photo Blog would win a “FREE” 8×12 print of their choice. I had never done anything like this before, so I didn’t know quite what to expect.
Within a few minutes, 3 of my facebook Fans had participated in my little challenge. The winner, Erin Gonzalez, selected this photo of my dog Sierra & I canoeing on Gold Lake in Sierra County, California.
I am planning to do this again soon. If you would like a chance at winning a “FREE” photo, you will need to become a Fan of Sherri Meyer Photography. As a Fan, you will be able to participate in challenges such as this, take advantage of our specials and more.
Thank you for visiting!

Canoeing on Utica Reservoir, Alpine County, California.
We are back. We just spent 6 days at Utica Reservoir and it is just as wonderful as it was 26 years ago!
This photo is one of many I will be sharing during the coming weeks. We came back with hundreds of fresh images and we covered just about everything on our shoot list. It was one of the most successful photographic adventures to date.
Things are quite piled up around here everywhere you look. I sure hope we don’t have any drop-in company any time soon. It looks like a tornado touched down in our house.
That said, I’m not quite sure when the next post will be. But, hopefully it will be worth the wait.
Be back soon.

Family canoeing at Ahjumawi Lava Springs State Park, California.
This family was spending part of their summer vacation canoe camping at Ahjumawi. They and 2 fishermen in a boat were the only people we saw that day.
It was just enough people to make it interesting and they made great models for my stock photography!

Most people have never heard of California’s Northeastern most State Park, Ahjumawi Lava Springs. I hadn’t heard of it either, until the name jumped out at me while reading over the California State Parks brochure. [click to continue…]

Jeff and Jeff kayaking on Lake Clementine, Auburn, California.
As I mentioned in my previous post, the next stop on our August Road Trip was Ahjumawi Lava Springs State Park. But, before I write about that mind blowing place, I wanted to share a little bit about what we have been shooting since that trip.
This photo was taken about 3 weeks ago at Lake Clementine, one of our favorite places to kayak and canoe. Soon, the upper end of the lake where we put in will be closing for the season and we wanted to do a fall paddle before that time comes.
The weather that day was perfect. It was in the mid to upper 80’s and we had the lake to ourselves as Jeff (in the yellow kayak) was describing in this photo.
By the way, I just learned that kayaking is the new activity of choice for “Baby Boomers.” That explains why we like it so much!
Note: The lower end of the lake is open year-round.

Jeff and Blue Thunder climbing out of Little Gold Valley, near Gold Lake, Sierra County, California
Of all the off-road adventures we have taken in Blue Thunder, climbing the hill in this photo left the biggest impact. [click to continue…]

Silhouette of a couple canoeing on Blue Lake, Tahoe National Forest, California
There are several Blue Lakes in California. But, the one in the photo above has been a favorite of ours for many years. In fact, we have kept it a “secret” up until now. I won’t tell exactly how to get there, other than it’s the Blue Lake near Lake Spaulding, in the Tahoe National Forest.

Off-road adventure into Utica Reservoir, Alpine County, California
Blue Thunder has been a part of our family for 25 years. But, unfortunately, the time has come that we will be finding it a new home soon.

I just realized that I started this Blog one year ago today! I have also noticed over the course of the year, that a lot of people read my first blog entry. I did the same thing, when I was doing my research, before starting my Blog. And I bet a lot of you out there that have Blogs did too!
This first post was also one of my favorites of the year, so I thought it would be fun to repost it today.
Enjoy!

Title – Auburn, California – A Travel Destination?
lt all depends on who you are. A friend and former resident of Auburn doesn’t think so. He like so many others stop here on their way to Reno or Lake Tahoe.

Photo – couple canoeing on Lake Clementine, Auburn, CA
Try paddling Lake Clementine. It’s great for canoeing and kayaking. It’s mostly flatwater, with a few rapids at the upper end where the North Fork of the American River flows into the lake. The water is very warm during the summer months and there are several sandy beaches along the shoreline. So, pack a picnic lunch, load up the boats and head for one of the best paddling lakes in the area!
Getting There:
Lake Clementine is located off the Auburn-Foresthill Road, approximately two miles from Auburn. From I-80 in Auburn, exit at Foresthill, drive 3.5 miles on Foresthill Road, turn left onto Lake Clementine Road. It’s about 2 miles down to the boat dock, via a paved road. You can also access the lake at the upper end, by driving a little further up on Foresthill Road, turning left and driving about 2 miles, via a dirt road. The dirt road is bumpy in places, but most vehicles can make it just fine. I prefer to enter the lake from the upper end. This way you avoid most of the speed boats and it’s by far the prettiest part of the lake.
