Bobby Finally Did It!

Bobby-Retire-3

Baby Boomer Bobby Tudsbury kickin' up her heels, during her "Big Time Wowy-Zowy Retirement Party," on Wednesday in Roseville, California.

Wednesday was a very unique day for Jeff & I. We attended a retirement party we will never forget. Our friend, Bobby Tudsbury, rounded up about 40 friends and relatives for a one of a kind party to celebrate the “end of an era.” After working as a Hostler/Servicing Engineer at the J.R. Davis Railroad Yard in Roseville for 33 years, Bobby was calling it quits.

We were to arrive at the Railroad Yard promptly at 4:00 in the afternoon, for a group photo on (and around) one of the locomotives. Women were to come dressed SEXY. That didn’t fly too well with most of us ladies. It was cold. I opted for warm, not SEXY. Sure glad I did!

Funny thing, the group photo was more like 100 group photos. Our friend, Steve Chandler, was the lucky one with the assignment and he is a Landscape Photographer! He did a great job and was a great sport.

While it was a ton of fun being in the photos, I wanted to see the group from the Photographers perspective. I took a few photos and this one was one of my favorites!

As always, thanks for visiting and comments are always welcome and appreciated!

Amgen Tour of California is Coming to Auburn!

by Sherri on February 17, 2010

Foresthill-Bridge-7

Close up shot of the Auburn-Foresthill Bridge taken this past December. You are looking towards North Auburn. This image was processed using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2 & CS3.

WOW – this is BIG news! The largest cycling event in America, the Amgen Tour of California is coming to Auburn this May. A route through Old Town Auburn, Downtown Auburn and along the Foresthill Bridge (California’s tallest bridge) has been decided on, as part of the first leg of the race. This leg starts in the Gold Rush town of Nevada City and ends in Sacramento, our state Capitol.

If you will be up in this area for the race, there is a lot to see and do here. For starters, be sure to set aside some time for exploring Nevada City, one of the most charming of all California Gold Rush towns. Then, there is my town of Auburn. There is a lot to see and do here too.

For a few ideas on how to spend your time while visiting Auburn, you can refer to my Auburn Category on the sidebar of this Photo Blog, or the Auburn Photos on our Website. Locals, you may even get some ideas of things to do in “your own backyard!”

Thank you for visiting. Note: If you have any questions about the Auburn area, please feel free to add them in the comments section below.

Young’s Market, Taylorsville, California

by Sherri on August 29, 2008

Sue Hadley sitting in front of Young’s Market (built in 1862), Taylorsville, California

There is not a whole lot in Downtown Taylorsville, but that’s the way we like it. Our favorite travel destinations are usually the lesser known, off-the-beaten-path locations, such as Taylorsville in Plumas County, California.

The population here is less than 200. There are only a handful of business establishments in town. But, this little “Po Dunk” town located in beautiful Indian Valley is rich in beauty and history. There is also a lot to do and see in Taylorsville and the surrounding area.

We learned while visiting McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park later on in our trip, Taylorsville is quite the happening place over the 4th of July weekend. The family we talked to from the Bay Area have been visiting Taylorsville over the 4th of July weekend for years. I think we just might have to put that on our travel list for next year!

More photos of Taylorsville to come!

Happy 4th of July

United States of America Flag

Happy 4th of July everyone. This day brings back lots of very fond memories, growing up in the East Foothills of San Jose, California. We always had family and friends over for a big BBQ, which as I recall included tons of corn on the cob, potatoe salad and homemade ice cream. [click to continue…]

In case you haven’t heard, California is on fire. In Northern California alone, an estimated 200,000 square miles have already burned. Most of the several hundred fires burning are due to the several thousand lightening strikes from earlier this week. [click to continue…]

Blue Angels 3

Blue Angels – Capital Airshow, Mather Field, Sacramento, CA

The most exciting thing about our day in Sacramento was when we got invited to fly with the Angels.

Yes, that’s right!

Jeff and I both got to experience first hand what it’s like to fly with the Blue Angels. That has to top anything I’ve ever done!

Had you fooled didn’t I?

Happy April Fools Day!

Blue Angels at the Capital Airshow, Mather Field, Sacramento, CA

This is another one of my favorite shots of the Blue Angels, I took during a recent trip to Sacramento. If you ever get a chance to see them, go for it!

I’m not really into aircrafts per se. But, watching the Blue Angels perform was one of the most exciting things I’ve ever witnessed.

When Jeff and I left home for the Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail photo shoot, we knew the Blue Angels would be flying high in the sky nearby. We were hoping to get a chance to see them perform, as we were very close to Mather Field during our shoot.
