Steve-and-Peg

Steve Hadley & Peg Challender stop to enjoy the scenery on the East Ridge Trail at the Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park, near Coloma, California.

We have been really busy shooting adventure & outdoor lifestyle images lately. While we have been doing our share of complaining about the strange weather we have been having this year, it has been better than normal for photography.

By this time of the year, the landscape in this area is usually brown. But, as you can see in this photo I captured over Memorial Day Weekend, it is still very green. There are also still a lot of wildflowers in the Sierra Foothills, as compared to a normal year.

The photo above of our friends Steve & Peg is one of many new photos we captured on a beautiful Spring day in the Sierra Foothills.

See more Adventure and Outdoor Lifestyle Images on our Sherri Meyer Photography Business Page, or by visiting our Adventure and Outdoor Lifestyles photo archive.

Thank you for stopping by. Comments & questions are always welcomed & appreciated.

Fall Hike Along the American River

by Sherri on November 6, 2009

Sherri-&-Cocoa-3

Sherri & Cocoa hiking along the North Fork of the American River, Auburn, California. This image was developed using both Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2 & Adobe Photoshop CS3.

It’s been a couple of weeks since we took this hike. The color down in the canyon was looking pretty good then. This weekend, we are returning to a different location along the American River for more Fall photos. I’m really looking forward to getting out again. I’ve been tethered to my computer too long in one stretch.

I should have some new Fall nature images up next week for you all to see.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Photo # 1 - Hiker viewing one of several waterfalls on Canyon Creek, near Lake Faucherie, Tahoe National Forest, California.

Can you guess what I did to photo #2 (below) in Lightroom to achieve the results you see in #1? This week I’m doing something a little different with my Monday Makeover. Instead of telling you what I did, I am curious to see if you can guess what I did. I will let the cat out of the bag, after I get a few responses.

Photo Update – the cat is out of the bag! (July 10th)

Thanks to all of you that gave your best shot at guessing what I did during this photo makeover. I won’t make you wait a minute longer. I am now letting the cat out of the bag. Here is what I did to the original photo in Lightroom 2.

  1. Set White Balance to daylight.
  2. Set the Fill Light to +40.
  3. Set the Clarity to +100.
  4. Set the Vibrance to +70.

That’s it folks. Thanks again for your participation and for your patience!

ponderosa-hike

Peg spotted a rock with a built-in seat.

Jeff and I went on a great hike/photo shoot with our friend Peg on Memorial Day Weekend. We were planning to hike the “Codfish Falls Trail” near Weimar. But, when we got down to the river, it was way too crowded for our liking. So, we crossed the bridge and hiked the trail on the other side of the river. Jeff and I had never hiked on this trail before. It was awesome! [click to continue…]

Healthy Lifestyles Stock Photo

by Sherri on January 20, 2009

Donna Bussinger hiking at the Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park, Pilot Hill, California.

This is another one of my favorite shots taken the day of our hike. I love the simple, uncluttered composition. It also tells a story. You can tell that Donna is having a good time and she is active and healthy. She is also a Baby Boomer.

I took this photo because it will work well as a photo illustration in many different health related publications, as well as in advertisements.

Movie Location at the Cronan Ranch

by Sherri on January 12, 2009

Movie location at the Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park, Pilot Hill, California.

I have a few more photos to share over the next few days, that were taken during our recent hike at the Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park.

This photo shows the whole movie set where “Love Comes Softly” was filmed. It reminds me of the television series “Little House on the Prairie!” That was one of my favorite shows when I was growing up.

PhotoShop CS3 to the Rescue!

by Sherri on January 7, 2009

Donna & Maya Bussinger looking through the window of the cabin at Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park, Pilot Hill, California

Thanks to PhotoShop CS3, we were able to get one good photo from the two that I took of this scene.

In most cases, I take at least 1 horizonal and 1 vertical of everything I photograph. It’s always a good idea when you have a good scene in front of you to take more than 1 photo of it. You may never have a 2nd opportunity. This time it was absolutely vital that I did take the 2nd photo.

This is what happened. The horizontal photo was really good of Maya (girl) and the vertical photo was better of Donna (Mom). Now, here is where PhotoShop CS3 came to our rescue. We were able to cut Donna’s face from the vertical shot and replace her face in the horizontal with the good one. This is something we have never tried before until now. We are really pleased with the results.

Love Comes Softly Movie Location

by Sherri on January 6, 2009

Cabin at the Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park, Pilot Hill, California.

During our hike at the Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park on New Year’s Day, we stumbled upon this picturesque little cabin.

Come to find out, it was part of a movie set, which was used in Michael Landon Jr.’s 2003 movie “Love Comes Softly!”

I have more photos of this movie set coming soon!
