Jeff and I are looking forward to another great Cross Country Ski season this year. Hopefully, we will get out more than we did last year, which was only once. But, the previous year, we managed to ski a dozen times. Wow – that sounds a little out-of-balance to me!

Fall in the Foothills – Nevada City, CA #4

This fall decoration really caught my eye and I love it for two reasons. It’s simple. It’s also unique. The unique combination of the Pumpkin and the Petunias is quite a contrast. One way to add impact to a photograph, is by including contrasting subjects in the composition.

Photo #1 – Rock Shop in Nevada City, CA

While wandering around Nevada City in search of fall color, we stumbled upon this little Rock Shop. I found it so interesting and unique, I had to shoot the h**l out of it! When you have a great subject in front of you, it’s always a good idea to shoot multiple frames. It’s far easier than returning to the location later!

As I walked around to the other side, beautiful sidelighting was striking it. This turned out to be one of my favorite photo subjects of the day!

It really pays to get off of the main drag and visit some of the side streets. That is where you can often find the more unique subjects, not the ones everyone else shoots!

It’s not too late to see the fall colors in Nevada City. This shot was taken on Monday of this week. My husband and I got up there just in time to see peak fall color. If you are thinking about visiting there this weekend, I don’t think you will be disappointed. It will probably be spectacular for a few more days.

Canyon Creek Campground – Lake Faucherie, CA

Our campsite at Canyon Creek Campground, CA

Here are a couple more photos from our trip to Lake Faucherie and Canyon Creek in Nevada County. The photo above is of our campsite along Canyon Creek. We borrowed this tent trailer from our wonderful neighbors, who insist that we use it whenever we want to, except for a couple weeks out of the year. So, we have been taking them up on their offer.

We prefer to travel the back roads and often by four-wheel drive. This trailer would not make it into a lot of the places we go, but most people are amazed at some of the places we do take it. Canyon Creek Campground was one of those places. Most of the people we talked to were complaining about the road and couldn’t believe we made it in with a tent trailer. To us, it was just another dirt road!

We will eventually invest in our own RV and the first one we get will be an off-road tent trailer.

Canyon Creek Campground is quite the camping spot! First of all, there is no fee to camp at this beautiful, uncrowded campground located along Canyon Creek. The campsites are spacious and most of them are equipped with bear boxes for storing your food. There are also picnic tables, fire rings and clean pit toilets. Now, that’s what I call getting a lot for your money!

After hiking and boulder hopping for several hours, it was time for a foot massage. This photo looks like an advertisement for Chaco Sport Sandals!

Sherri Relaxing Along Canyon Creek

Sherri taking time out from her job, Canyon Creek, Lake Faucherie, CA

Most often, there aren’t many photos taken of the one taking the photos! But, thanks to my husband Jeff, he made sure that I was actually on this trip too.

Part of what I love so much about my job, is that I get to “wear many hats!” I get to be the photographer, the model, the teacher, the researcher, the planner, the editor, the writer and the list goes on. But, unfortunately, the percentage of time behind the camera is far less than the time spent in the office – for now anyway. Changes are coming in the near future!

Upper Falls Along Canyon Creek

Mara was right! This hole had it all. Great access, large, flat rocks for lounging and beautiful scenery all around. Again, we had this place all to ourselves! I will be posting more photos of our adventures soon, so check back often!

Mara had checked out the swimming hole below the upper falls earlier in the day. She added that it was by far the best of the bunch to dip in. So later on, the 3 of us returned there for a little dipping and relaxation.
