Monday’s Makeover: A Pair-O-Gliders

Photo #2 - Paragliding in the Sierra Foothills.

Sometimes I have a hard time tossing out a photo just because it’s out of focus. This photo is one of those photos. What I like to do when this happens is to apply my favorite artistic filter in PhotoShop CS3 “Poster Edges.”

Photo # 1 – In Lightroom 2, I set the White Balance to daylight and applied the Nikon D300 preset. Then, in PhotoShop CS3, I turned this out of focus photo into a digital art photo, by applying the “Poster Edges” filter.

Photo #2 – This is the way the NEF looked straight out of the camera.

Does this work for you? I’d love to hear your comments.

Old Town Truckee, California

by Sherri on May 14, 2009

Digital Art photo of Old Town Truckee, California.

Truckee is perhaps one of the most charming and popular mountain towns in California. It is close to Lake Tahoe and offers year-round recreational opportunities.

We stayed in Truckee at the “dog friendly” Inn at Truckee, during our recent road trip. I highly recommend this place if you are visiting the area with your pooch. It is very reasonable, has a spa and hot tub and even includes continental breakfast. It is also close to Old Town, which is one of the areas I was photographing during our stay in Truckee. Our dog, Cocoa, gives it 3 paws out of 4, based on the rating system in the California Dog Lover’s Companion Guide Book.

About the photo:

I used my favorite creative filter in PhotoShop CS3 “Poster Edges” to achieve this look.

Love Comes Softly Movie Location

by Sherri on January 6, 2009

Cabin at the Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park, Pilot Hill, California.

During our hike at the Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park on New Year’s Day, we stumbled upon this picturesque little cabin.

Come to find out, it was part of a movie set, which was used in Michael Landon Jr.’s 2003 movie “Love Comes Softly!”

I have more photos of this movie set coming soon!

Old Town Auburn Icons

by Sherri on December 21, 2008

Auburn Volunteer Fire Department with the Auburn Courthouse in the background, Old Town Auburn, California.

Two of the most famous icons in Old Town Auburn are no doubt the Auburn Volunteer Fire Department and the Auburn Courthouse.

This photo was also captured during the same photo shoot as the photos in my last 2 posts. It was shot at ISO 6400.

While developing this image, I decided to apply my favorite artistic filter in PhotoShop “Poster Edges.” It works really well on old buildings. I hope you like it too!

Taylorsville Tavern

by Sherri on September 3, 2008

Taylorsville Tavern, Taylorsville, California

Unfortunately, we didn’t get to check out the Taylorsville Tavern while we were in town. It looks like it could be a fun place to have a cold one, next time we are in the area!

Lower North Fork of the American River, Auburn, California, as seen from our hike on the Western States Trail.

This photo of the American River was taken during our recent location scouting trip down in the American River Confluence area. Jeff and I had gone down there to see if anyone was rafting or kayaking the recently opened “Auburn Run.” [click to continue…]

A Different Perspective

by Sherri on July 14, 2008

The famous and historic “No Hands Bridge,” Auburn, California

While on a hike and location scouting trip recently down in the American River Canyon, I took this shot of the famous “No Hands Bridge.”

I have photographed this bridge a few times, but not from this perspective. I really like the unique angle of view and the way the bridge is reflected in the American River.

This photo will be available in our Auburn Stock Photo Gallery soon, along with this photo of No Hands Bridge.
