"Purple Mountains Majesty"

"Fire on the Mountains"
Our two newest images above were taken this past October, during our Eastern Sierra Road Trip.
Can you believe that these two images were taken 30 minutes apart and from approximately the same spot? Yep…that’s right. The only differences are that I was looking east when I shot “Purple Mountains Majesty” and looking west for “Fire on the Mountains!” They were also developed using different techniques in the super wonderful Photoshop Lightroom 3.
When you have a great scene such as this in front of you…it’s always a good idea to shoot it in as many ways as possible. You never know if you are going to return or not!
Cheers,

The Walker River, Eastern Sierra, California.
I just had to stop at this spot along the beautiful Walker River, during our recent road trip. The sun was going down really fast, so I had to work really fast to get a few shots of the scene. This one is a “keeper” and one of my favorites!
I’m submitting this photo for the #FallFriday theme on Google+. I welcome you all to join me over there. If you are interested in photography, you can learn a ton of stuff from some really great photographers. Come join me. Just click on the link above.
Enjoy your weekend everyone!

Fall colors at Conway Summit, Eastern Sierra, California.
We are back. As there is no such thing as perfect, I will rate this trip a 9 1/2 out of 10. We had a few very minor things go wrong, but that is to be expected!
The image above was captured from the road (highway 395) at Conway Summit. Actually, I shot this from the truck window and this is straight out of the camera. I did not push the color one bit on this one. The color over there was to die for, as it turns out, unlike what we heard before we left home! 🙂
Our shooting wasn’t just about fall color though, as is for many folks traveling through this region this time of the year. We included people in many of our images kayaking, fishing, camping, soaking in hot springs, hiking and more, with the fall colors in the backdrop. We also shot landscapes, nature and abstracts for our Fine Art Collection.
NOTE: If you are planning a trip to the Eastern Sierra to photograph the colorful Aspens in all of their glory, I recommend going within the next week. Their leaves were falling like crazy at the higher elevations, when we were there last week!
Stay tuned for more images from this almost perfect adventure!
Cheers,

Foggy Morning Over the American River Canyon, Auburn, California.
This is my town. My wonderful town of Auburn, California. This scene is only a couple of miles from my house and occurs every winter. After years of dreaming about photographing it, I finally got over there and did it!
I just submitted this image on Google+ for the My Town Tuesday theme. If you are not on Google+ yet and you would like to be, you can sign up by clicking on the link above, then click on “sign in” in the upper right hand corner of the page.
There are a lot of great things about Google+. To sum it up in a few words…it is like Facebook & Twitter combined. Something else that really appeals to me is there is no advertising…at least not yet! 🙂
Enjoy your day,

Sunrise on Gold Lake, Lakes Basin Area of Northern California.
During our recent adventure to the Lakes Basin area, we didn’t have very exciting skies for the most part. This photo of Gold Lake was captured during a lucky moment. I believe it was the only morning out of 4 with a sky like this!
See this photo of Gold Lake, which was taken during our trip last September, where we had unbelievable skies most of the time we were there.
You can follow our adventures over on my Facebook Photography Page, where I will be sharing many more photos from our recent trip to the Lakes Basin Area. Coming soon to the album will be photos of our climb to the top of the Sierra Buttes Lookout!
If you have any questions or comments, feel free to put them in the comments section below. Also, if you would be interested in a photo tour to the Sierra Buttes later this summer or early fall, please send us an email to: sherri@sherrimeyer.com.

Joshua Trees in the Mojave Desert, California.
When we first spotted these Joshua Trees, they didn’t look all that great. The sun was still way too high in the sky. My goal was to locate the trees I wanted to shoot, then wait for the dramatic light. I knew there would be a great sunset, due to the amazing clouds in the sky.
We waited it out for about 30 minutes. Then, just like I had hoped for, the drama began. The sun came through the clouds and lit up my landscape beautifully.
I don’t know how long it will be before we can make a trip back to the desert (hopefully not too long), so I shot a dozen or so different compositions of these Joshua Trees. This is one of my favorites!
Questions or comments? I’m all ears!
See ya!

Joshua Trees in Jawbone Canyon, California.
Joshua Trees (Yucca Brevifolia, as they are scientifically known) are really fun to photograph, I discovered on our recent trip to Southern California. They are a American plant, found only in the Southwestern United States.
Jeff & I were exploring Jawbone Canyon and came upon this cluster of Joshua Trees backlit and nearly silhouetted, by the sun hitting the mountain behind them.
I wanted to show a little more detail in the trees, which I did easily in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, by adding a little fill light. In case you missed this, here is another photo of Joshua Trees I posted a few days ago. You might also like to see our brand new “Bakersfield & Beyond” Gallery.
Have a great weekend and be sure to come back to see more photos from our trip.

Joshua Tree, near Red Rock Canyon State Park, California.
Happy Thanksgiving from Bakersfield, California!
We are spending an extra day down here in Bakersfield this year. There are so many things to see and photograph beyond Bakersfield, but we never have enough time to see them!
Yesterday, we drove to Red Rock Canyon State Park. We didn’t have much time there, however, as we got sidetracked at Jawbone Canyon. Both places are really cool and we will definitely return to both of them in the future. The photo above is one of the images I captured during our scouting trip.
Thank you for stopping by and have a great Thanksgiving!

Photo: The Kern River near Hart Memorial Park, Bakersfield, California.
This is one of the images that will be included in our new Bakersfield Gallery coming very soon! I am on a mission to capture images of Beautiful Bakersfield to prove a point; that beauty and great subjects can be found anywhere!
So many people refer to Bakersfield as ugly, boring, hot, dry and stinky. If you hear anything positive, it is usually from someone who lives there. Stay tuned, as I share with you “Bakersfield Through My Eyes.”
Thanks for visiting and be sure to check back soon!

Sierra Buttes, Northern California.
This is a closer up view of the magical Sierra Buttes mountain range in Sierra County. It was captured from Upper Sardine Lake, which is where I captured this photo of the Sierra Buttes.
Enjoy your weekend everyone!
