Mushing Clinic Photos

by Sherri on November 5, 2012

Here are 3 of my favorites from my recent Mushing Clinic Photo Shoot. What a hoot! I love photographing portraits & action photos of people & their pets, especially dogs & horses. This was a perfect assignment for me!

Photo above – When I saw this beautiful young woman & her beautiful dog together, I had to get this shot. First, I shot it in color, then converted it to B/W and added a white vignette around it, which gave it the “High Key” look.

Meet April Cox and her beautiful team of Huskies. She raises and races performance bred AKC Siberian Huskies. She also goes by “Badas Musher.” You can read more about her on her Badas Musher page on Facebook.

Meet Zuhal & Zev. They are very new to the sport, but Zev took to it right away. He is one very strong dog and handsome too!

By the way, if you live in or near the Auburn, CA area and you would like to have your portrait taken with your dog or horse, send me an email to: sherri@sherrimeyer.com. Please put “Portraits” in the subject line.

Thank you for stopping by!

Image Licensed for Big Bucks!

by Sherri on April 1, 2011

Woman running with her dogs across the famous and historical "No Hands Bridge" in Auburn, California the "Endurance Capital of the World!"

Wow, this threw me for a loop! This image was just licensed for 100,000! It will be used to promote the upcoming “Western States 100 Endurance Run,” which starts in Lake Tahoe and finishes here in Auburn.

This is by far the most money I have ever been paid for the use of a single image!

Just had to share the BIG news! :-)

Have a great weekend!

Out For a Run

by Sherri on October 21, 2009

Sherri-&-Cocoa-2

Sherri & Cocoa out for a run in our rural Auburn, CA neighborhood.

Now that Fall has arrived here in the Sierra Foothill’s, I feel a lot more like going out for a run!

This image was taken near where we live in rural Auburn, California. Remember – great photographs can be found “Right in Your Own Backyard!”

When I developed this image in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2, I added a little fill light, increased the Clarity to 50 and the Vibrance to 70.  If you are not using Lightroom, I highly recommend that you give it a try!

Wednesday’s WOW: No Hands Bridge

by Sherri on June 17, 2009

no-hands-bridge3
Woman running with her dogs across the famous “No Hands Bridge” in Auburn, California.

I chose to feature this photo in my “Wednesday’s WOW” post for a couple of reasons.

First of all, I really like it and secondly the annual Western States 100 Endurance Run is coming up June 27-28. If you have never heard of this race, it is a 100-mile foot race which starts in Squaw Valley, California and winds up in Auburn, California 100-miles later. The participants of this race will cross No Hands Bridge minutes before reaching the finish line at Placer High School. NOTE: This bridge is in both El Dorado and Placer counties. The Eyes Have It

by Sherri on February 4, 2009

Cocoa watching the coyotes from our bedroom window. This photo was shot at ISO 3200, 1/800 sec, f 2.8 on a Nikon D300.

I’ve been going through my backlog of images editing, reorganizing and looking for a photo to use in today’s post. I was looking at a series of our dog, Cocoa, watching four coyotes from our bedroom window. I had to choose one out of the bunch and this one stuck out from the rest.

Why? That’s what I had to ask myself. They were all very similar. There were several that were perhaps as good as this one in some ways, but seem to be missing something. After analyzing them all, I chose this one because “the eyes have it!” I realized the eyes were truly the most important aspect of this story telling photo. This one was clearly the winner!

Low Snow in Auburn

by Sherri on December 26, 2008

Jeff & Cocoa walking in our neighborhood during a low snowfall, Auburn, CA

Well, we didn’t get the “White Christmas” we were hoping for. But, we have had a couple of low snowfalls recently. Unfortunately, the snow didn’t stick either time.

We still have a lot of winter ahead of us. We could still get a snowfall like you see in the photo in my “Merry Christmas” post.

A Day at the River #4

by Sherri on November 26, 2008

Cocoa fishing at the American River, Weimar, California

When I was photographing this close up shot of the river, Cocoa walked into my frame. She and a guy jumping off of the bridge are making the ripples in the water.

Paddle Pals

by Sherri on October 25, 2008

Jeff & Cocoa (Dirt Road Dawg) heading out for an afternoon paddle, at Ahjumawi Lava Springs State Park.

Poor Jeff. He usually has the dog in his kayak, because I usually have the camera in mine. The 2 don’t mix, as you have probably figured out.

We paddled out to the first campsite to check it out. We got a late start and we had a dog with us, which slows us down. So, the first campsite was as far as we were gonna get that day. That was okay. It was a scouting trip after all!

We hung out there for 3-4 hours waiting for the light to get better for photography, before paddling back to the truck.

I will post a couple more photos from our adventure next week.

Ahjumawi Lava Springs State Park

by Sherri on October 23, 2008

Jeff and Cocoa preparing for our kayak adventure, at Ahjumawi Lava Springs State Park, California. Notice Mount Shasta on the left.

Most people have never heard of California’s Northeastern most State Park, Ahjumawi Lava Springs. I  hadn’t heard of it either, until the name jumped out at me while reading over the California State Parks brochure. [click to continue…]
